Hi folks! I am planning to buy a used car for around $4000 or below. Since I live in a rural college town, I don't have too many options available in terms of choice of cars. I came across this 2000 Hyundai Elantra that the owner is willing to sell me for $3000. DO you guys feel that it is a good deal? Here's the link with pictures of the car. http://wheelz-r-us.com/details.asp?CarID=9393672&d=10931001&s=U912145 Thanks.

I bought the same car for $2200. New 2009 will cost $8000. Tell him to give for $2600 or less.

Corolla and Civics are more fuel - efficient in comparison to Accord and Camrys. It's a matter of choice, but I would go with a Civic, if I were you. The reason being, they are very fuel efficient and very easy to maintain. They also have smaller engines, leaving you with more mileage on that same amount of gasoline you would buy for a Corolla/Accord/Camry.
In terms of reliability, your Honda or Toyota would easily surpass a 2000 Hyundai. Although it's an increased invesment, you would have a much better gain over the long run.
Tips on buying a used car:

Hope that helps! Good luck. Be patient and you will land yourself a sweet deal.

4000 dollars seems to be pretty expensive deal, you can get other good deals at this price. try 2500 dollars and see how it goes. How much mileage does this car has and what year was it manufactured?
