Well, it is indeed nice of you to upload the photos and show a glimpse of what our fellow country do in Afganistan. But did you give a thought about their safety ? Though they might not be a target in Afganistan, but when they come back to the UK after the operation, they could be the target...there are many muslims in UK and among them there are many fanatics who could target our brothers.

well, there r millions pics of soldiers in different operations n videos in youtube n other websites, dont think talis can go personal to that level. ask neps dudes in UK who r more nuisance now haha. blakcs has been knocked down in pubs, few whites has been killed even fellow neps r now killing each other; one dude was slained n his body thrown in thames river, its sad but true.  

 

brother, its ur own choice as to b proud or not. but the fact is valour n gallantry of gurkhas r world renouned n the name is attached with nepal not UK or india. gurkha welfare society has done n is still doing a lot in rural nepal, even though they dont physically fight for nepal, thier contributions r fighting against poverties of nepal to sum extent.

i don't see any difference between these army and one who takes money to kill never seen people, just for sake of "Noon ko Soojho"........we nepali never have problem with poor afghani people and instead we are similar in many ways.........so when innocent afghani people gets killed i hope they won't say gurkha or nepali people killed...instead i'm hoping they will say ..British army killed

Its time for Gorkhali to come home and serve Nepal. I am too distraught that madhesis can join Nepal army now. We need pure Nepali, Gorkhali.

There are some people who can do nothing and just comment others.  Gurkhas are Nepalese, and they never say that they are not Nepalese. Wherever they went they have represented Nepal to some point because whoever knows Gurkhas around the world, they know that they are from Nepal.

Here, I disagree with " I my". He/she said that they are not fighting for Nepal so dont be proud of them. So my friend I think u are proud of Mao's who are fighting for Nepal as they claimed. You must be proud of those YCL who claim they are fighting for Nepal. You must be proud of yourself who even hide his name while commenting others. Buddy, Gurkhas never betrayed their orders. After Anglo Nepal, they were ordered to serve British by Nepalese government and they never speak out a word and followed orders. Now they go whereever they are deployed without any hesitation. Learn something from them. learn to be loyal. Don;t learn to be like Free H1B who will someday get a greencard and toss the passport of Nepal that helped him to come to US.

And like Yakthung says, Gurkha Welfare  Society has done many great things in rural Nepal. So try to learn their positive contribution too. They serve under British flag, but they have never forgotten their root, Nepal.

it is very feudal n eighteenth century mentality; 'noon ko sojo', professionalism of gurkhas has reached the highest level, its just another profession like anyone working for corporations abroad. they do pay taxes to respective gov of country they r in, dont see any contribution to our motherland nepal. n gurkhas r not deployed to kill innocent afghans but against talibans, in broader sense n as to borrow the western slogan; global fight against terrorism. well, the primary reason for enlistment is to earn as to survive like any of us.

 

JPEG bro, nothing wrong with madhesis joining nepal army, if one has potential n ability to fulfill all the requirements then anyone deserves the ranks.

I really appreciate your feelings to come back to Nepal after what u call corporate experience.... I would really like to c people like who loves Nepal. I appologize for what I said but I have heard many of my friends saying the same thing about returning Nepal and haven't seen any of them doing so. I would be eagerly waiting to c u return Nepal, and when you do so plz post it in Sajha.And I guess you are not gathering your corporate experience in a gas station.... which would be worthless in Nepal.

And by the way, I was shocked by your assumption. I wrote in favour of Gurkhas, and it does not mean that I am in UK and I have a PR. From this, I should make an assumption No matter where  Nepalese go, no matter which university they attain, the bottom line is all of us are Bheda. May be I am in Nepal so I am Bheda but c urself, u are bragging of ur US education and still u r showing ur Bheda character. So my friend don't be what Nepalese call pani mathi ko obhano and try to be what the americans call smartass.

and my friend,try to appreciate those Gorkhalis who are still holding our tag of "Faithful and courageous" Nepalese. If you don;t like them, then don't open the page, and dont comment. If you really like to comment then dont forget u r a US graduate  and should act like that. Don't act like what u call " Bheda".

nice thread after a long time.. good work yakthung bro.. keep up the good work.... and as far as some people's concern about the Gurkhas not fighting for Nepal and instead fighting for the British (or Indians or whomever), I feel that they choose to do so; so, who are we to say or complain about what they have chosen for their lives. Its just like any other profession.

it's because of the service with the gorkha units that many families have managed to alleviate out of poverty.
it's again because of this service that many ex. gorkha son's and daughters have received first world class education.
there are many ex. gorkha son's and daughters in brunie, singapore, hk, uk and other places around the world who are studying.
so i really wouldn't blame these people for what they want to do.

i just wish these people can contribute to nepal and not stay in uk after their service.

agree with u guys, dont know the exact reason why sum ppl vehemently try to demean the gurkhas, they r fully incorporated in british, india, singapore n brunie as regular force, who r benefited by every priviledges n facilities and pensions paid as any regular forces, which does not happen as for 'bhada ko sena' or mercnaries. here r sum of thier contribution to nepal which they hav been able to provide through gurkha welfare trust.

Britain refuses full settlement rights to all ex-Gurkhas The British government has refused to offer full settlement rights to all former Gurkhas who retired before July 1, 1997, despite a High Court ruling last year. Britain will not grant settlement rights to more than 4,300 ex-Gurkhas, the British Home Office said on Friday, AFP reported ."Over 4,000 ex Gurkhas and around 6,000 spouses and children will qualify for settlement rights in the UK," the Home Office said in a statement issued Friday. Former Gurkhas have condemned the decision and announced a legal battle against the same. There are 36,000 Nepalis who retired from the British Army before July 1, 1997 when the base of Gurkha regiments moved from Hong Kong to Britain. Ironically, fewer than 100 Gurkhas will actually meet the criteria set by the government, campaigners said, despite the government's estimate of 4,300. The former Gurkhas must have served for 20 years or more or been given a bravery award to apply for permanent settlement in Britain. In addition to this, they should meet one of the five conditions set by the British government to be able to apply, AFP reported.
