All,

My brother's spouse is a dental doctor in Nepal. She is coming to USA in a permanent resident status. What is her scope here? How can she pursue her career in USA? What are her options to get better employment? Your advice is invaluable resource for her career development.

Thank you.

Nepal's BDS is not recognized over here @ USA.She needs to go through a licensing exam and then a 2 years course costing around $100,00. In addition, it is very competitive to get an admission @ an university. Finally, after all of this, c will be able to get a job starting from 100K.

Thank you perrybhadra.

What about dental hygienist? Dental hygienist are kind of assistants to the dental doctors. Do you have any idea on how to proceed with that?

I think what she can do is prepare for two test, if she wants to be dental doctor. Dental doctor earns a lot than dental hygenist.

She has a perm resident that means she can get federal loan easily so tell her to study hard for two exams and then apply for college, she can apply for school in december if she can get done with the exams by November if not she has to wait until next semester.

best way is to go to school for 2 years and she can paid off her loan ea\sily once she is a DDS.

tintotopi,

Yes that is the best option. But sometimes due to faimily and kids the best option may not be feasible. Hence, plab B with lesser income may be next best option. That's the reason the dental hygenist is another option even if it pays less. But, no idea how to proceed for this.

Nepali bhai

ask her what she wants that you deciding it. i

After getting green card she can send the kids back and prepare for her exams.

Prepare a resume for her and apply in any dentist where there are openings.

Dental hygenist can earn 25 to 30 which she can barely support her family.

with 2 years of hardcore dedication, she can support anyone!

Dental Hygienist option is a very good option. However, it will take about 2 years to complete, and that's the same amount of time it takes you can be a DDS. I understand kids and family are a priority, however, if you all make a sacrifice for 2 years to let her complete her degree, it will definitely be worth it later (DDS start at $100,000/year, which is ridiculously good.)

Start applying now though! Deadlines come around December/January. Go to that web site that was mentioned above to inquire more about that.

I think she needs to focus on National Boards Part 1 to apply for the dental schools (which are pretty competitive)

ADA website is pretty good to refer to.
