Hey guys, I need suggestions if i should apply for H1-B visa or look to extend my opt. I am working for a company (not through consultancy) in IT. I understand there are pros and cons here, but i want to weight one out. Please, take a moment to share your knowledge and experience. I will heed your say. Thanks

Extend your OPT without any question. This gives you the flexibility to change jobs or job descriptions. It gives you a lot of freedom. Once you get into H1B, your options are very limited.

@xx-nepal but won't you be able to apply for the GC and all earlier if you start your H1B. Also, since the H1B's have caps, it is not bad idea to give it a try as you never know if next time you will be in luck.

Thank you all for sharing your views. I was told by an H1-B Lawyer that even this year H1-B can cap out sooner than last year. There are many Indian companies that will try to exploit the loopholes in here. I believe, workers in IT can still be injected by companies to keep them as reserve, for developmental purpose, and eat up the quota. Which will cause problems to people who have struggled in US for years and still have to fight them, which i think is totally not fair. Anyways, I hope i can take the right step. Keep up the good work guys.
