Kathmandu, August 6, NS report –
Nepal battled and defeated Ireland by 10 runs in yet another thriller at the Bready Cricket Club on Saturday.
Nepal were put to bat in the rain affected match which was reduced to 46 overs per side. Sagar Pun 50 of 100 balls, K Karki 35 of 60 and a breezy 38 not out of 19 balls from Rahul Vishwakarma helped Nepal post a defendable total of 187-7. Nepal piled 42 runs from the last three overs with superb innings from Vishwakarma. Ireland skipper George Dockrell took 3-15 from his 10 overs.
The Duckworth-Lewis calculation reduced home side’s target by two runs.
In the chase, Ireland lost first four wickets for 53, but Dockrell 55 of 86 and Adam Coughlan 48 of 86 balls added 107 runs for the fifth wicket to inch Ireland towards victory. After this partnership was broken, the chase fell apart.
Ireland required 14 to win from the final over with 4 wickets in hand, but it was Nepal’s left-arm spinner Rahul Vishvakarma who picked up four wickets in the final over to bowl out Ireland for 175 and earned his side a 10-run win.
Dockrell was awarded the man-of-the-match for 55 runs and 3-15 but Vishwakarma scored a breezy 38 not out from 19 balls to get Nepal up to 187 and took 4-28 (all 4 in last over) to prevent Ireland winning at the death.
