Hello all,
I am going to take ticket via DEL. Going to get two separate tickets. Here to DEL and DEL to KTM, separate one. It came out cheaper that way. It means I have to take my luggage out @ DEL. Any suggestions?

Like has already been said, you won't be able to take 2 luggages from Delhi to Kathmandu unless you paid hefty sum. Also, please tell me that your layover/difference between your arrival to Delhi and departure from Delhi aren't more than 6 hrs long....

I went to Nepal 3 times within last seven months and two times I chose Delhi as a transit point.
I bought seperate tickets to Delhi and from there to Kathmandu as you are planning to. First time I flew KLM, was in Delhi before midnight. After we landed I went straight to JetAirways transfer desk and showed them my connecting flight ticket, which was for 06:45 (or something like that). They were very helpful and contacted KLM ground staff regarding my baggage. When the KLM guy showed up I gave him my baggage tag. After he signed me as a transit passenger he took me to "pre" transit area and asked me to wait for JetAirways guys. Around 3 am one guy came shouting my name. He wanted my passport, I noted his name and ID number and handed my passport to him. He disappeared for an hour and came back to take me to identify my baggage in front of one custom officer who merely looked at me. Then he handed me my boarding card and I had the security clearence in no time.\\
Second time I flew Turkish Airlines and had a connecting flight to Kathmandu at 12:50 PM with JetAirways. This time they advised me that if I cleared Indian immigration and customs then I wouldn't need to wait in "pre" transit area for 6 hours. I decided to take a chance and was pleasantly surprised at the professional level of Indians at Delhi airport. One question was asked at the immigration and that was regarding my transit arrangement. Went thorugh green channel at the customs and one "babu" stopped me. Threw my baggage in xray and chuckled at "only two" mobiles. Went out, checked in at the JetAirways counter which opens at 0300AM, cleared the security and made myself comfortable at "Delhi Daredevil's" bar for next 6 hours. It was just great.

Lately I travelled twice to Ktm via Delhi ( wanted to see new airport). I used two different airlines . This time to my surprise my luggage was booked up to ktm (although I was using different airlines from delhi to ktm)
No one asked me my passport and ID. I had to show passport only during security check and boarding, thats all, Their new airport is nice. They have clean food court and different resturents inside the airport. There is also a nice hotel inside airport, if you want to take a nap. It will cost you arround 100 dollars. They also have cell where you can sleep they charges 10$ per hr. it is equiped with LCD tv and wireless internet.
Ppl were friendly and promt in their service unlike the few years back. It was my first trip via delhi after 2002.

Delhi airport is not bad as it used to be. Better than many middle east county airport where they treat all nepali passport holder as laborer.
About two different tickets - if it is the same airlines (say US to Del on jet and Del to KTM on Jet) or airlines partner (like star alliance partner or codeshare agreement) than you can take 2 luggage and your luggage will be checked all the way to kathmandu. I flew via Delhi many times and the only time I got into problem with my luggage and had to pay was when my flight from Delhi to Kathmandu was with Spice Jet. Since it is a low cost carrier and don't have any codeshare agreement with other major airlines I had to re-check my luggage and pay extra. So if I were you I will buy Jet or Air india ticket from Del-KTM and avoid any low cost carriers.
