 अंग्रेजीका क्लिष्ट शब्दहरु बीच नेपालीमा उत्कृष्ट लेखाइले भन्दा पनि कथाको गहिराइ र यथार्थ प्रस्तुति ले मन छोयो...

Nice story.A vivid picture of Nepalese polarised lifestyles after the conflict and the awesome burden of family ties at times.Good blend of Nepali and English makes it more engaging and perceptible and btw it takes 17 hrs to fly from LAX to Bangkok.

Anne,

What didn't surprise me was how well the story was weaved, considering how well you write, that was always given, what surprised me was your bilingual proficiency. Most of us do not speak Nepali well, let alone write it, in the wake of that, not only did you well in Nepali, but you also did it almost flawlessly. That alone is not the case, what amazes me more is your sending a point across when you blended both languages. That is a gift.

Also, that came as a big slap on a face of people like me who do not write in Nepali. I am ashamed that I do not write in Nepali because I am simply lazy. Typing in devanagiri when writing a story takes twice as much time and even more, and an impatient person that I am, I cannot simply handle the effort.

That also should be a big slap on faces of people who claim they write in English because their Nepali is not good. Seriously, that statement is as flawed as Jesus walking on water.

Not trying to go overboard, but if a dude straight out of Little Angels (just an example, not stereotyping all students) speaks like this -

मेरो गर्लफ्रेन्ड क्या च्वांक छ यार

Instead of

मेरी गर्लफ्रेन्ड क्या च्वांक छे यार

And claims  यो मन त मेरो नेपाली हो, I see both my middle fingers going up involuntarily.

P.S - I do not know who you are, but I am already jealous of your boyfriend. :)

Thuldai, man paraidinu bhaeko ma dhanyabaad. Nepali ma nalekheko 8 barsha bhaecha, tei pani ali ali koshish gareko thiye.

Riddle, I'm humbled. I don't think my amateur piece and a literary masterpiece like Palpasa Cafe are even comparable, but I am glad you liked it.

Thank you serial, vasu, Awara, and junkyfunky.

Behoove, thank you for the nice words. Its always nice to hear encouraging words from great writers like you. I had been struggling with Nepali for a while myself. As I started this piece, I started to "think" in Nepali, and then write down my lines in English (unlike my other pieces where I think and write in English). Somehow, that process wasn't doing justice to the lines, say, a Nepali mother speaking in English in a village near Ambu Khaireni would look hilariously awkward. It was an amateur effort, and I am glad you liked it. Amen to your thoughts on them "patriots" as well!

Adventurer, thanks! I've noticed that you have been very encouraging to several writers on sajha. Admirers like you enthuse us writers to come back and write more. Thank you!

We had this discussion with Rahulvai long time back about how stories should be and how they should not be. I think the stories we can relate to rings the bell to us rather than the ones which are written in more complex literary language and yet we can not relate anything at all. You have got the skill to keep it simple without losing the details and bring a complexity in a story. I would love to see more stories of this par. Cheers.

I have to be honest. Like, but not बिछिट्टै like. But then again, it's a short short, and it's better than some of the others.

Thank you nitisa, I am glad you liked it.

Poonte, I always appreciate genuine and honest comments. I am not content with this piece myself, and I feel like I could have added much more to the storyline. It was an attempt to write in Nepali (which I haven't done in years), and somehow it took away from the story as I tried to incorporate two languages. Thanks a bunch for your honest opinion though - I can't stress how much I appreciate it.

Dear anne, this is my third time reading this story. Don't have much to say because words cant articulate your talent. Just wanted to say good job as always and keep on writing. Unlike behovee, i'm jealous too, not with your boyfriend but with your writing.

Your story scared me. The Nepali dialogues you have used have an uncanny resemblance with my family  conversation back home. I was  immediately transported to my childhood days in my hometown. Your choice of nepali names- muda, pirka etc among free flowing yet authentic nepali dialogue is spot on and remarkable. Through your story, I was able to visit home for 10 minutes, vicariously. thankyou.
