arent all the companies that you name were BAILED OUT ! how can you be so sure that its right time to buy.., these were the companies which CRASHED and people lost MILLIONS overnight. As Warren Buffet says NEVER INVEST IN ANYTHING WHICH YOU DONT HAVE ANY IDEA. So, think very carefully before you buy crashes !

diKush, Citigroup's stock is trading at over $3.50 right now. I bought 1000 shares at 96 cents (30-40 days ago ). Wish I'd bought 10000 shares!

Can some of you Einstein's great grandchildren give this guy a fkn break for fks sake? He's giving a genuine idea. What the hell will you lose by buying stocks worth less than a buck? Just buy 3-4 hundred dollars worth of shares.

I would recommend tdameritrade.com or zecco.com. Zecco.com has the best rate for each trade but Tdameritrade has the best research tool. Their quotes are real time. F1 student can open a investment account. But if you are on a F1 visa they will withold 33% out of your dividend and profit. But it is still profitable. Stay away from financial and tech stocks. Also stay away from AIG and Citigroup, those stocks are very very volatile. Do some research for energy stocks. Don't go on to tech stock too. I would recommend companies like Visa, Proctor and Gamble. Also if you invest your money in stocks, don't just invest on only one stock. Diversify your stock among different stocks. If you lose on one stock the profit on the other stock will help you recover the total losses. Also put some cash reserve. Always have a plan, make sure how you wanna invest. Long term or short term. But do a lot of research on your own, never ask anyone for the right time to buy or sell. Also try to know about Dow Jones Industrial Average. Because the market will always goes in the direction that Dow goes. Be very very careful, Stock market is very volatile right now.

After doing little research I have come across following stocks:
Now (per share) Then (1-5 yrs ago, per share)
Hot stocks
ABK $1.02 $90
FNM $0.90 $70
FRE $0.94 $70
C $4.03 $50
AIG $1.70 $70
GGP $1.05 $62
Penny stocks
AVRNQ $0.35 $50
SSCCQ $0.09 $17
CEGE $0.46 $12
SPSN $0.18 $16
TXCO $0.69 $14
PEIX $0.41 $40
VSUQE $.001 $25
Do some research on these companies before you invest money. My personal opinion is invest 500-1000$ on Penny stocks and leave it until it get back at least half/quarter of its lost value, then sell it.

Basnetpr - BOA have 30 free trades per month if you qualify (means if you have certain amount in equity in BOA accounts). My problem is - if you are not a citizen, you have to call them and open an investment account in person over the phone. I was wondering if I shall just check the "citizen" option and open an account online. Do you guys think it’s going to be a problem later on? Currently I pay $12 per trade in etrade. Just wanted to save some $ in the trading fees.

Procupine, Here is the thing. In getting away for 30 trades, you have to have a minimum 10000 account value. But with TD ameritrade you can open your account and trade for less than 100. All they need is a copy of your passport, and yours state Id so that they can verify you are a foreign individual residing in the united states. That's what I did..

Looks like I'm too motivated to buy some stocks after going through this thread. Good work guys. keep it up. basnetpr, as you said above "But with TD ameritrade you can open your account and trade for less than 100" Is there also a trading fee on TD ameritrade? How does that fee thing work? How to buy stock online through TD ameritrade website? I think I am gonna spend couple of hundreds dollars with penny stock.

I have nothing against you and I certainly do research before I invest.I just wanted to make you aware of the fact ..
dikush,
Reconsider your hot stock list..(do not worry,Wall Street analyst is not being able to predict in this difficult time, any of us can be wrong--but collectively we can share our thought and cautiously invest)

dikush, you are one delusional kid! You don't think people have taken into consideration the fact that these stocks were $50 a year ago? If investors believed that this stock will skyrocket, then they will put their money. The thing is that no one knows. That's why these stocks are dirt cheap. Don't give me the 'they are too big to fail' argument. Read up on history and on Japan's Lost Decade. And what is happening with stocks like Citi? It's called pump and dump. Traders will put in money seeing stupid folks like you jump in for no reason and once they think its overvalued, they will dump the stocks. I don't trade until I see a trend and right now the market will see another correction. And don't gives promise of a fortune to other novices here just because you got lucky a few times.

Citi is the best stock. Vikram pandit gave us a hint, the stock will go down less than a $1 on Mid-June of 2008. Vikram Pandit he prays to Ganeshji every morning when he comes to his office. He has big Ganesh God ( design only for that office after he became a CEO) on the wall next to his desk in his office. He moved his office to 2nd floor in that building. 2nd floor, one level upper than the lobby. Thats the secret!! if you are Hindu, then you should know this secret. All his big, big meeting he does only on Saturdays. It shows he does Hanumanji ko pooja on Saturday. If you pooja Hanumanji on Saturday, all the impossible errands you think its hard can be wrapped up very fast. American and media don't like him very much, he works saturday, he always tells he is right because he knows he is right. According to chinese year, he was born in the year of Roosters. That means he can manage money very well and can give good advice on fortune to others. He speaks what he knows. I am very thankful to Ganeshji and Hanumanji...because person who strongly believes on them won't go any wrong....My Etrade account is doing very great..Jay Ho..Citi.
