Hi, I am a graduate student of civil engineering. I am planning to take FE exam this fall but when I checked information and instruction for FE exam for my state, they have there for graduates of foreign universities " If you attended and graduated with a BS degree from foreign university regardless of additional degree received, you will be required to have your transcript evaluated by NCEES. you may contact NCEES at www.ncees.org. They will provide you with the information and instructions necessary for the evaluation of your transcript. We require the course by course evaluation. There is no wavier to this requirement."
I am sure there are lots of people who has given FE exam so what you guys did for this? Does our BE degree meet NCEES standard??
suggestion would be appreciated.
thanks.

Mr. Bucolic,
First, as a decent US graduate stop using jargon in your post. WTF is FE???. Though I know it, you should be generous to let all those who visit your thread know with simpliest words what you mean. Second, if there is mandatory rule of having evaluation done............how did you even come up with an idea of waiver. However, nepalese curriculum offer far more stronger course load to compete with US class. Basically, they (US) want you to spend few hundred bucks you have saved in your saving/checking account before their silly administraction can stamp your curriculum validation. Sorry, for you. We are just a victim. BUt surely your course is far more better enough to have validation.
Good luck.

u did not mention, from which state you are planning to give FE exam. You need to evaluate your transcript and certificates for the state engineering board of respective state where you are planning to take the exam. NCEES just organizes the exam.
Some of the states still do not require you to evaluate you bachelor's degree transcript if you are enrolled in a graduate degree program and have spent two semester or so. For instance if you are in texas, you do not need to evaluate your transcript. And you are free to sit on the exam from any state.
Besides NCEES, there are couple more state certified evaluation centres available, which will cost you around 100- 200 bucks less than NCEES. But your state board must have pre-certified those evaluation centres.
Even after credential evaluation, they may ask you to take some courses in ethics or can have a board meetings to certify your transcipt. In my case they certified me eventhough i didnot have any courses in ethics, They told me i have far more credits in math and engg. subjects than an average US ABET univ engg program.
Hope this info helps.
Best of Luck

@lute bahun: Firstly thanks for your comment...I will try to take care that in my future threads...even though I am assuming people who knows FE are only gonna reply this thread...2ndly I am not looking for wavier...I am looking for options..I have heard some states do not require credential evaluation.
@clickerguy: Thanks for your reply, I am in Alabama, and they have said in their website that " you will be required to have your transcripts evaluated by NCEES" and it costs $400 for that evaluation. I am not sure about other evaluation centres. I have the same fear what if they want me to take some courses on history/geography/psychology or sth like tht which we never took in our undergrad.
can we take our FE exam in the state other than the one at which our graduate school is?? If we can then I think it is the best option rather then spending 400 bucks...what do you think?? and even if I go for credential evaluation do they ask for transcript directly sent from university or notarized copy will work?
thanks.

Yes you can always take FE exam from other states, but you'll have to follow that particular state's rules. You can ask the albama board of engineers and land surveying board about the recognition of other credential evaluation centers whether they accept any other institution's evaluation.
If you have friends or families in other states, then i guess it'd be less expensive for you to sit on FE from that state. I gave my FE from Texas and i'd my masters from Texas A & M. In my opinion, texas is more flexible on these evaluation things.
And i'm pretty sure, they won't ask you to take any additional courses after the credential evaluation. I have never heard of anyone from Nepal or India actually taking extra courses in ethics/ psychology etc. for the recoginition of state board. So you can rest assured that after evaluating your credentials you are good to go for the Exam.
And never worry about $400, it is far more convenient to sit on the exam at the place where you are. Remember FE exam is not only about your engineering skill, its a kind of marathon test that you need to cope for 8 long hours.
thanx

Give the exam in state of NH. NO questions asked, even a nursing major or fine arts major can sit for FE exam in NH.

Well, I tried to give FE exam in my own state and the board asked the NCEES credential evaluation of My bachelors. As the time was running out I couldn't do that time. So, instead I opted for Michigan, as they don't need any evaluations there.
Yeah one of my friend tried to do the evaluation the board took some time and told that we still do lack some of the credit hours in order to be ABET equivalent. So, he also gave that in Michigan.

I didnot have to send the original transcript directly from the university where i attended my bachelors. But one of my senior who recently took the P.E. exam had to provide credentials directly sent from nepal.
So i guess they will ask you to submit credentials directly sent from university. As none of the university in Nepal sends the transcript to any other university you can ask a friend back in nepal to get a copy of your credentials and attest them at resgistrar's office. And put an university seal on the attested envelope including those credentials. Then your friend can send it to NCEES by courier with the senders address as the Resgistrar's office.
And do not forget to keep a copy of your syllabus inside and a red seal on the envelope.
Hope it helps out.
