Here are other factors that i think is causing you to gain weight beside all the cheap meat we consume here.

1. Lack of exercise: Back home almost every nepali walks 3 - 4 miles per day. Walk to the bus stop and back from college or work. Walking for shopping, climbing stairs to your room on the 5th store and such.

2. The Age Factor: Many people forget that its just the age that is supposed to add some weight on you. Most nepali get here between 18 - 25, once you start going downhill you are supposed to gain weight as you stop growing vertically it is likely that you are going to start grow horizontally.

3. Cheap Food: Food is cheap in america, and is available everywhere. Lack of knowledge in healthy food choice contributes a lot. I remember the times when we were student. We were buying those unhelathy 0.60/per lb chicken legs, the cheapest you could get, instead of smaller portion of chicken breasts that was 3.99/per lb. Make the right choice, if you cannot afford good meat then eat less of good meat than more of cheap bad meat.

4. There is no such thing as bad Nepali food. You just have to know how to balance it out. Our diet has too much carbs in it. Too much rice makes us lazy and unproductive. Reduce the portion of rice, increase protiens like Lentils and beans and vegitables. Avoid oily food and lots of oil in your curry and meat. You are getting that pot belly from too much rice and your legs, arms and chest is small because you have no protien in your diet. You can easily see the difference between an american fatass and a gorkhey fatass. Gorkhey fatass doesnt have any ass all he has is a huge pot belley that doesnt allow him to see his own pee pee.

Hope this helped !!!

Excessive food consumption and lack of exercise I guess. For me by exercising regularly, I have gained only 4kgs in 12years.
For Sexy in Sari, I think her exercise involves someone else as well. lol

Just to add my thoughts on the above issue, its not necessarily what you eat, it's how much you eat at one time. Back home we ate several meals a day as a result had high metabolism. When you come to US due to lack of time (especially if you are a student and working full time job also) you are lucky if you get one proper meal, and when you do you are hungry and consume a large portion and probably go to bed afterward. Both are Major reasons for gaining weights. Keep in mind, everything we eat in the US is a process food, harmonized. In order to keep a price down, there is no other way out for US businesses. A chicken takes at least a year to grow naturally, but here, chickens are grown within a couple of months chemically. As a result, when you eat the chicken, you are not only consuming the protein you are also consuming the chemicals that are on them. Further more guys, if McDonald is selling the chicken nuggets for .99c, obviously it is not the chicken breast. If Domino's selling pizza for $ 5.99, definitely they are not putting real cheese on them. So look what we are eating daily.

You go to Europe everything is organic therefore they are expensive but they do not have obesity problem.

let me tell you guys what has helped me maintain the same weight for last 10 years is:

Exercises 3-4 times a week.

Eat several meals a day instead of just one big meal.

Drink lots of water.

Beside that I drink, I party, I don't care whether the food is oily or not. It has worked for me and it might just work for others.

I am losing more wts since I came here. Coz I rarely eat fast food and soda. I prefer homefood and plain water.

Stress and Weight Gain: How Stress Can Affect Your Weight

Can Stress Make You Fat?

By Elizabeth Scott, M.S., About.com

Updated: October 03, 2007

About.com Health's Disease and Condition content is reviewed by the Medical Review Board

Whether we're stressed because of constant, crazy demands at work or we're really in danger, our bodies respond like we're about to be harmed and need to fight for our lives (or run like heck). To answer this need, we experience a burst of energy, shifts in metabolism and blood flow, and other changes.

If you remain in this state for a prolonged amount of time due to chronic stress, your health becomes at risk. Aside from a host of other dangers, chronic stress can also cause weight gain -- which is why some products like Cortislim are marketed as diet aids.

Chronic stress and cortisol can contribute to weight gain in the following ways:

Metabolism -- Do you feel like you're prone to putting on more weight when you're stressed, even if you're eating the same amount of food as you always have? Too much cortisol can slow your metabolism, causing more weight gain than you would normally experience. This also makes dieting more difficult.

Cravings -- OK, you're stressed. Do you reach for a nice salad or a pint of Ben & Jerry's? I'll bet on the latter. People experiencing chronic stress tend to crave more fatty, salty and sugary foods. This includes sweets, processed food and other things that aren’t as good for you. These foods are typically less healthy and lead to increased weight gain.

Blood Sugar -- Prolonged stress can alter your blood sugar levels, causing mood swings, fatigue, and conditions like hyperglycemia. Too much stress has even been linked to metabolic syndrome, a cluster of health concerns that can lead to greater health problems, like heart attacks and diabetes.

Fat Storage -- Excessive stress even affects where we tend to store fat. Higher levels of stress are linked to greater levels of abdominal fat. Unfortunately, abdominal fat is not only aesthetically undesirable, it’s linked with greater health risks than fat stored in other areas of the body.

Stress and weight gain are connected in other ways:

Emotional Eating -- Increased levels of cortisol can not only make you crave unhealthy food, but excess nervous energy can often cause you to eat more than you normally would. How many times have you found yourself scouring the kitchen for a snack, or absently munching on junk food when you’re stressed, but not really hungry? More on what causes emotional eating.

Fast Food -- Experts believe that one of the big reasons we’re seeing more obesity in our society these days is that people are too stressed and busy to make healthy dinners at home, often opting to get fast food a the nearest drive-thru instead.

Too Busy to Exercise -- With all the demands on your schedule, exercise may be one of the last things on your to-do list. If so, you’re not alone. Americans live a more sedentary lifestyle than we have in past generations, yet our minds seem to be racing from everything we have to do. Unfortunately, from sitting in traffic, clocking hours at our desks, and plopping in front of the TV in exhaustion at the end of the day, exercise often goes by the wayside.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to reverse the pattern of weight gain and actually reduce your stress level and waistline at the same time.

The thread that could have ended up between the cracks of any three pairs of love handles Sexy in Sari bears is actually turning into a very informative thread.
