I live in the affected area and the preparation seems to be for the worst possible scenario. Every year there are few over hyped expected weather events which end up not being as bad as expected.

It seems like it's one of those so far. Let's hope it ends up being one of those.

If this hype wasnt there, hundreds of ppl would have been dead. Subways emptied, coastal cleared, lowland evacuated, and then low casualties, preparedness saved lives. Preparedness is hype for some ignorant ones. But watever, hurricanes dissipates as soon as it hits inland, sandy did faster than expected. Good for ppl out there and happy bout it.

It is more hyped because it is coming in the world's #1 financial district New York. The countries capital Washington dc. It has a wierd path and it came at the odd time of the year. Next coming is Snow.

New York's Sandy nightmare: Obama declares 'major disaster' as 17 die and swathes of city wake up powerless and under water

sandy

New York looks like the set of a disaster movie this morning after a night of being battered by Hurricane Sandy. It hit the mainland at 6.30pm local time last night having laid waste to large parts of the coast throughout the day. Millions were left without power as New York City closed down its power supply as a safety measure, giving the famous skyline an eerie look (left). The city's transit system, schools, the stock exchange and Broadway were also shut after a 13ft wall of water caused by the storm surge and high tides brought severe flooding to subways and road tunnels. Torrents of water poured into building works at Ground Zero (right) and swept cars down streets.

@wonton and terimatoknee (jasto naam testai kaam)

Grow up dude!!

You still think Sandy is over hyped. What world are you all living? How long have you been in the US?

Even it were to be a tropical storm or whatever the media are doing a great job creating awareness among the public. You can't take any chances. Nepal ma Sandy aako jasto kura na gara na keta ho. Kathmandu ma euta sano earthquake jaaos na sab jana marchan ani purai ktm sakhab huncha. This is US dude that too NY, of course the government will create overpreparedness situation. Better safe than sorry!!

**NY ma jhundi raako crane terimatoknee m*ji ko tauko ma khasnu parne ho ani taha huncha overhype ho ki k ho**

All they needed to see is this -->> http://on.cnn.com/PjS2i8
Sitting in your comfy chair somewhere uptown in Newyork can't get you what a terrible mess people living by the ocean had to go through,
please go through the link above, and reconsider what were you thinking.
It wasn't "overhype" for those who lost their houses, apartments and their family members lives.

My apology to sajha friends , when there was no rain sunday night I thought ots over hyped but after its mess I am sure its a disaster.
I saw tree falling just behind car I was. Me and my 3 friends just saved by few seconds . Manhattan was standardized with all entry point sealed. My all friends who used to work in Manhattan are staying home since monday and its goona last till subway opens which is less than a week.
Lower Manhattan has no lights. All school and coll are closed. Its real horrible here.

Everyone seems to be in a rush to put the blame here. My post did not imply it was a hype. It asked a question if it was only hype? And the weather has already responded a negative on that.

If you look closely I wrote that I wished it was a hype only.

Yeah, I don't think you guys deserved that much of criticism. Nobody blatantly called it a hype (maybe except terimatokne)...point we are trying to make is preparedness is not hype. You never prepare for just the right amount, you have to always over prepare.

In any case, here's wishing that the aftermath doesn't get prolonged for too long.

Lot of people thought it was a hype before Monday, because it was in the news since friday or thursday.
While the news said that hurrican will be inland around 2pm Monday - 2pm tuesday, people were impatiently waiting on saturday and sunday to hit.

Mno, not only us there were too many people who thought its overhyped till it make such disaster.
I talked to few khaires and they were saying its just government trying to show they are prepared! But nothing will happen.
