you're having homesick. you will be alright after a week or two, no worry. try to spend your time watching movies, sports (if you don't have TV, you may watch it in youtube, etc.). You can try online dating here, there are few good free sites.
Don't think about family a lot. I mean we all love our family. Think from their perspective, they would most probably want to see you succeed in the US.
all else think about long load-shedding daily in Nepal, most roads broken with traffic jam, dusty, bad smell, all chaotic situation that we are all so familiar with.

I think the best way is to keep ur self occupied.. I cant help but get sad if thoughts tend to spill all over.. Everyone has their shares of ups and downs, and its liketly to remember only the lows when u are by yourself.. Keep ur self occupied.. there are always internet, chats, movies that helps you to keep you mind off your thoughts and home.
IF u are in the States-- they have meetme stuffs . those are groups where u get to meet people sharing your interest. That way u will meet new friends too
Good luck,
Mercy

let me tell you my secret. Exercise. I used to feel the same way as you do. but then I started exercising. it is amazing how exercise helps to curb your depression. Exercise helps to release a kind of neurotransmitter known as endorphin. it gives u a natural "high' and makes you happy. After 30 min or an hour of workout, you will feel the sense of achievment. Also, involve in activities that makes you smile and laugh a lot. it works the same was as exercise does.

i agree with nepal_boy. Exercise daily. It will give you some confidence 'n i can do it attitude. but again everybody is different.
first of all find out how serious is your depression or is it a depression or just home sickness and sadness
depression is an illness. if you feel tired most of the time, feeling worthlessness- hopeless, insomnia, loss of interest, feeling of hurting self then you should see a specialist.

Share with others what is bothering you will help but make sure you share with right person. Try to take a vacation might help and also talk with your close ones either here or back. When I visit Nepal makes me refresh also do the thing what you like most. If nothing is helping see a DR.
