Hi, I am a registered nurse from Nepal and I was wondering how to get Nursing license in USA. I heard that some people were able to give NCLEX exam from Nepal but I see that they require approval from the board of nursing from the state to even sit in the exam. If it is true how can one give exam from Nepal. Is there a way to just give NCLEX exam without any hassle. Thanks

I don't think they have a center in nepal to take Nclex. However, that's true that you have to get eligibility letter from boards of nursing from states here. Length of the process depends on which state you want to go with. I would suggest you to go with California Board of Registered Nursing if you have Bachelor in Nursing. If you have PCL only, than go with New Mexico. Download forms from their website and go through each and every lines. Follow the instructions. There is no stress free way to get through the Nclex RN test specially when you are in another country. Still what you can do is try to make it your best. Good luck!

simran, there is no way to take NCLEX exam without getting approval from the State Board of Nursing in the U.S. It is a U.S. nurse licensure exam, so you have to do the credential evaluation before you can even appear on an exam. But if your nursing college in Nepal is kind enough to give some more additional hours than you might not have to go to school in the U.S. I have seen people going to school because they need psychiatric hours and I have seen people who didn't needed any additional hours. So it all depends. As a first step, you have to do a credential evaluation from CGFNS (It's a globally recognized organization). Go to www.cgfns.org/ for more information. Open an account, choose the state from which you want to take an exam, pay the charge, typically it will take at least 4 to 6 months to be complete but sometimes it might take long. In the mean time when you do all this processing, work part time and read for NCLEX exam. It's pretty difficult. Good luck.

oh ok, when I was in Nepal, I did get my credit evaluated by ECE, Educational Credit Evaluators, so do I have to do it again from CGFNS? I think this one is more specific to Nursing. Why is California better for Bachleor Of Nursing, I am in Louisiana and it is very far form my place.

If heard that if you have SSN and BN, its pretty easier process from CA. Also you can take CA board exam staying at LA. No need to go to CA.

If you are in the USA, I wonder why you would like to ask if you could take the test from nepal. Anyway, I prefer California if you are BSN because they are faster and their process is easier to understand. You would not want to go with CA if you do not have BSN because they will make you take extra classes. You do not necessarily need CGFNS. You need CGFNS for visa screening for green card processing or if your state board of Registered Nursing requires evaluation from CGFNS. California does not require that.

If you are going with CA board of nursing, They have their own credential evaluation service. You will not have to worry about CGFNS.. In case your hours are less, they will still let you sit for the NCLEX, and if you pass, they will issue a temporary licence. And that temporary License can be changed into permanent by taking those missing hours by going to school after you have your temporary license. Processing is easier with CA board because, unlike other boards you doNT have to deal with CGFNS, but with the CA BOARD OF NURSING only.

Since you guys are talking about nursing, i would like to ask if there are possibilities of being sponsored (h1b) in nursing field.I heard they do not do h1b in nursing and have to go for masters.Anybody has any idea? Your experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks

@Gaurav, you can go directly for Nclex from CA Board. @ mt77 No H1B for nurses any more. You can still apply for it, but approval chance is almost Zero.

Can you practice in New Jersey if you apply with California board and pass NCLEX?
I heard you need to score 6.5 in IELTS to practice in NJ, is that true?
live_let_live, what do you mean by: You need CGFNS for visa screening for green card processing or if your state board of Registered Nursing requires evaluation from CGFNS ?
Why would anybody need evaluation from CGFNS for visa screening if they have applied for visa as a wife of permanent resident?
Does New Jersey require evaluation from CGFNS?
Thanks.
