I think the Nepali passport expiration date should not be less than 6 months to enter U.S , that's all. You can always call the embassy to confirm.

Best thing for you is to get a temp passport at the embassy. Even if your PP is valid until the 2020 it doent satisfy the E passport rule.

All hand written passports are considered expired starting Nov 25, 2015, so your passport expiry of 2020 goes to drain with that requirement. So not sure if you will be able to return back on hand written passport. Try getting expedited MRP with one week time frame.

Best thing you can do with go to Nepal and get a MRP passport. It take 2 weeks in Nepal to get the passport and come back with the new one.
