I am sorry for your experience but I want to say not all agents are commission thirsty crooks. Some of them out there are really trying to help families in need. The premium depends on your age, height, weight, medical issues, type of work you do and ofcourse the face amount. And, if you plan on getting more riders such as diability, accidental death benefit then your premium gets higher too. And the fact about IUL (Index life insurance) is sth i do not agree with the speaker. I think it is a best way to invest on your retirement unless you want to invest on the stocks on your own. 401k, IRA they are all old news. After 2003 and 2007-9 recessions.. ppl are thinking do not want use them as their retirement vehicle. thats why we have IUL. there is a cap but there is one for the ceiling abd one for the floor. I guess they are talking about the third party insurance brokers. It applies to mostly those who don't work in professional job - which mean (mostly) those who obtained residency from DV or asylum (i.e. non-US graduates).
In my view, those US graduates who work in professional job don't have to go through this.

The real issue is that these Nepali agents who are desperately falling for the "get rich quick" are the ones who are luring Nepalese that are new to United States. They get their 80-90% commission and that's all they care. They like to show how much money they're making every month and they post in their Facebook wall. That's a greed.
