I was planning to fly back home and was going to apply for MRP Passport but looks like it will be 3-4 months and want to apply temporary passport. How long will it take for the temporary passport? And also I checked the website and was told that I need a valid reason in order to apply for the temporary. What do you mean by a valid reason and any suggestions for good valid reason would be accepted.

Temporary passport is applied along with MRP application and is a handwritten one and is issued if your current one is expired or lost or you need a passport while MRP is getting processed. Not useful in your case. You can apply for travel document to go to Nepal if you think airlines may not allow you board with handwritten passport. In Nepal you can apply for expedited MRP which will be issued in 7-10 days.

Hi Shradha Ji,

Making MRP is ridiculously easy and fast. You can fly to DC and get it done in less than an hour through the Live Enrollment Program.
Go to Nepal embassy and fill one hand written form, take 2 pictures of you and money order for some dollar (exact amount is in website and there is USPS right outside the embassy so you can get it in 5 mins. Make sure you are in the embassy in the morning before 1 as they dont take applications after 1).
After the form is filled, they will enter it in the Live enrollment website of Foreign Ministry. Then they will take your picture, using an webcam which will go to your passport. It will take less than a month for your passport to get issued and return back.

Also when you go to embassy you can take a prepaid envelope of a freight carrier, so they can ship the passport back to you as soon as it arrives from Nepal.

I was in DC this May. I went to Embassy on May 5, passport was issued from Nepal on mid May and I got call from Embassy on May 25 that my passport was ready to be picked. Staff at embassy were very nice to me. If you talk more to them they will be even nicer. Good luck !

(Also call them before hand if there are holidays or something before planning your trip).
I think you can also make MRP through Live Enrollment in New York Consul office but not sure.

Apply for travel document to Nepal. This is good for one way travel to Nepal and is valid for 3 months. You can get MRP in Nepal in one day. You can get the travel document in less than 10 days. You need the following to apply for travel document:
1. Two forms which you can download from this link.

2. Copy of passport and citizenship.
3. 2 passport photos
4. $40 money order
5. Paid return envelope with tracking number.

And a valid reason could be that you have to travel to Nepal for family emergency and you do not have enough time to get MRP from here.

thanks for the info. actually i cant travel to nepal directly with my current asylum status. that was the reason didnt make the travels document. Is it possible for me to apply for travels documents and travel with my status? Please help!

You don't need a separate travel document if you have a refugee travel document but have you looked into the future consequences of travelling to Nepal directly if you have gained asylum status in US?? You might probably be denied entry to US if the officer at POE finds out you travelled to Nepal.

so would it be possible to travel to india with the refugee travel document? in that case i would be able to meet them in india. Will this work for me ? since i dont have my mrp with me currently.

That one not sure, may be others who have travelled similary might chime in. If it allows to travel to india, you can travel between india and nepal with just a nepalese citizenship card.
