I need to travel to Nepal for a family's medical procedure and don't want to carry cash. My bank doesn't do traveler's check but said they could do cashier's check. Has anyone brought a cashier's check from US to Nepal and did you have any trouble getting it cashed or deposited in your family's account in one of the ktm banks? Did they charge hefty fees?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Oh gaathe, are you talking about wire transfer? They are offering a low exchage rate with wires, $1=NRs 101, not great considering there is also that $35 fee.

What other options with low fees do you all use?

@kirsten,
When you wire transfer, ask the bank agent to send it in dollars not rupees. That way you get rastra bank's exchange rates and not rs.101. The wire this way costs $45 which is $10 more than sending in rupees but you get excellent exchange rate.
