Hey folks,

Just wondering how long did you stay in Nepal for the longest period on your greencard & was there any issue at the POE? Do you get any trouble at POE if you stay more than 3-4 months in Nepal? Any Do's and Don't to keep in mind for GC holders while traveling back to Nepal? (I have regular GC). Your suggestion is highly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

It was about 3 yrs ago when Obama was ruling. I stayed in Nepal about 4 months. One officer at the port of entry asked the reason to stay such a long time , I told him the reason and there was no any questions .

Take re-entry permit, you can stay up to 2 yrs without any issue.

I am traveling to Nepal soon, and staying for 6 months, Am I taking a risk? What do you all think? Thanks in advance for the reply. BTW I am also a green card holder, and I remember reading on the USCIS website that one could stay outside the US for a year, so I was wondering why there would be even a problem?

Rules on USCIS arent concrete, it says extended periods of time.. So most people plan on staying around 6 months. You will definitely be asked for the reason if its around 6 or more. Get a permit if you are too worried.
