How reliable is usps priority mail service to Nepal for sending cell phone from USA ? I have used FedEx in past but they are getting ridiculously expensive . USPS cost around $30 and time frame that they quote is a week. But I am not sure how it works in Nepal. Has anyone sent any electronic through usps and if so how was the experience ? How does the custom gets handled ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Nepal post office will charge 100%-150% import custom fees, if they identify and open the box. They won't care either old or new cell phone. They will imposed import tax/custom fees based on the brand of cell phone. It' s more inexpensive to buy over there instead of sending through USPS or FedEx.

I would avoid post cell phone from here.

Thanks @everest8448 . Do you have any idea how much that tax amount totals upto? Long time ago i did through fedex when the custom charge they imposed was 5k NRS which I thought was reasonable at the time and there was a place in dallas which could do shipping through fedex for less. It was around $40 to ship. But since I am not in dallas anymore and I have to directly ship through fedex, they quote for around $108 where as usps charges around $30 if i use padded envelope or small box. The only concern I have is if it reaches to receiver and don't have to pay some ridiculous custom on this used phone.

The employees of nepali post office will steal if its an electronic item. So i doubt your receiver will ever get it . Only documents are safe to be sent via USPS. Why don't you post it to dallas and ask your friend to fedex for u.

hustler ,
it is not hundred percent true. I have sent stuff (electronics , clothes) multiple times without an issue. While you do have to pay the customs. As long as you have insurance on the stuff from usps it should be fine.

Thanks all for info. @fdpower any idea on how much would the custom? Below 10k say for iPhone 6 Plus. And do they deliver to your resident or have to pick up from custom office / post office
