I was trying to renew my real id driving license in MN and now they are saying that I have to renew my TPS and EAD to get a real ID. I know federal registrar notice clearly shows that the EAD and TPS is automatically renewed, I sent them federal registrar notice with screenshot but still they are saying I need to have updated EAD for TPS to get a real ID. I have spent many days trying to explain and these people never read it and they want my updated EAD. They told me that they would provide me with standard ID and not real ID re. With the same process in 2019 I got real ID and I dont know why they are making things so complicated where I have already provided all the evidences that they are looking for, they are still denying it. I have called DMV phone number and they are saying the same thing as well. Does that mean ki they dont even listen to federal registrar notice and just for the sake of real ID I need to update my EAD :D LOL.
So my question is
1. Do I really need updated EAD with new extension date to get a real id? Isn't EAD and TPS automatically renewed?
2. How can I assure the DMV office that the EAD and TPS is automatically renewed?
Need some of your suggestions...

@logankobaje: Enhanced ID chai citizens only ho, real id is for everyone else. Not sure about other states but in minnesota there are two flavor REal and enhanced ID. I like it with the fact that I dont have to carry my passport around when boarding the flight.

Don't show the screenshot, print the damn federal register thing and print them and highlight below and tell them to update their lame ass software to show the (SAVE) program to confirm the current immigration status of applicants for public benefits. Note Regarding Federal, State, and Local Government Agencies (Such as Departments of Motor Vehicles) While Federal Government agencies must follow the guidelines laid out by the Federal Government, state and local government agencies establish their own rules and guidelines when granting certain benefits. Each state may have different laws, requirements, and determinations about what documents you need to provide to prove eligibility for certain benefits. Whether you are applying for a Federal, state, or local government benefit, you may need to provide the government agency with documents that show you are a TPS beneficiary, show you are authorized to work based on TPS or other status, and/or that may be used by DHS to determine whether you have TPS or other immigration status. Examples of such documents are:
Your current EAD; Your automatically extended EAD with a copy of this Federal Register notice, providing an automatic extension of your currently expired or expiring EAD; A copy of your Form I-94 or Form I-797 that has been automatically extended by this notice and a copy of this notice; Any other relevant DHS-issued document that indicates your immigration status or authorization to be in the United States, or that may be used by DHS to determine whether you have such status or authorization to remain in the United States. Check with the government agency regarding which document(s) the agency will accept. Some benefit-granting agencies use the USCIS Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements Program (SAVE) program to confirm the current immigration status of applicants for public benefits. While SAVE can verify when an alien has TPS, each agency's procedures govern whether they will accept a particular document, such as an EAD or an I-94. If an agency accepts the type of TPS-related document you are presenting, such as an EAD or I-94, the agency should accept your automatically extended TPS-related document. You should:
a. Present the agency with a copy of this Federal Register notice showing the extension of TPS-related documentation, in addition to your most recent TPS-related document with your A-Number, USCIS number or I-94 number;
b. Explain that SAVE will be able to verify the continuation of your TPS using this information; and
c. Ask the agency to initiate a SAVE query with your information and follow through with additional verification steps, if necessary, to get a final SAVE response showing the validity of your TPS.
You can also ask the agency to look for SAVE notices or contact SAVE if they have any questions about your immigration status or automatic extension of TPS-related documentation. In most cases, SAVE provides an automated electronic response to benefit-granting agencies within seconds, but, occasionally, verification can be delayed. You can check the status of your SAVE verification by using CaseCheck at save.uscis.gov/casecheck/. CaseCheck is a free service that lets you follow the progress of your SAVE verification case using your date of birth and one immigration identifier number (A-Number, USCIS number or Form I-94 number) or Verification Case Number. If an agency has denied your application based solely or in part on a SAVE response, the agency must offer you the opportunity to appeal the decision in accordance with the agency's procedures. If the agency has received and acted upon or will act upon a SAVE verification case and you do not believe the SAVE response is correct, find detailed information on how to make corrections or update your immigration record, make an appointment, or submit a written request to correct records under the Freedom of Information Act on the SAVE website at www.uscis.gov/

@mangale: Thank you and your information was very helpful. When I went to them last time I took federal registrar notice and they told me and still been saying that I can get standard ID but not real ID. For them to process real id they need unexpired EAD and notice of action. I will try with your approach tomorrow and go from there.

@taremam_bhai. What other documents did u take besides federal notice and ur Expired TPS card. I think don't settle down for standard ID get the real id without which you cant travel on a plane. They require a Real Id to travel through out the USA.

@Card_Chaiyoo: When I went to DMV office, I took Printed Fed. Registrar notice, TPS notice of Action issued on 2018, EAD that expired on 2018

Made my Trip to DMV in MN and wanted to apply this time with my issued I20. Documents I took were - I 20
- Social Security Card
- Proof of evidence my current real id driving licence and my credit card statement
- Passport with I94
Again, they told me that they can only issue standard license and not a real id to me because my visa is expired. This is what they mentions in their website:
Valid, unexpired passport issued by a foreign country and a valid,
unexpired U.S. visa accompanied by a Form I-94 as documentation of the
applicant’s most recent lawful admittance into the US. If the Form I-94
is endorsed “DS” then a Form I-20, Form DS-2019, or Form I-551
Looking to get some help or advice on this as my DL expires on Jan 4 2021.

Do not worry about Real ID this time. It will take effect (mandatory to enter Federal building) on Oct 20ish 2021.Your new TPS based ID going to expire on oct 4 2021 anyway. Just get the standard ID. Why worry about Real ID now? If you have to fly after Oct 2021, passport is good enough to enter any airport.

resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the national emergency declaration, the Department of Homeland Security is extending the REAL ID enforcement deadline by a year. The new deadline for REAL ID enforcement is October 1, 2021. Read the announcement.

Applied for Standard ID, since they don't accept expired VISA and don't honor I20 course completion date. Felt bad downgrading from Real id to standard id but couldn't help it.
