Hope this story eases some of the frustations we have gone through in last few days. My heartfelt condolences for the ones who we didn't even know and yet remember so much about now.

"Mero mama le India bata special dhago pathaudai chha, nailon ko. Tesle ani herna, jun pani dhago lai kati dinchha. Majha laune jhanjhatai khattam." It was apparent that Raj was bored applying 'majha' in Saurav's 'thamel ko dhago.' I was holding the majha in thick glove that we found at one corner of Saurav's 'chhat,' where we were standing. "Tespachhi ma khali 3 dharkey changa matrai kinchhu ani jole pani 3 dharkey dekhyoki afno changa bhagai halchha." Raj added. "Teen dharkey nai kina ni?" Saurav inquired. "Tyattikai, baba-chey tyo Ishwor dai le udai rahanchha. Mero pani kehi chahiyo ni." ****************** Like a loose kite, our lives were free of any string. Ofcourse, moms and dads were there, but no other worries in life (don't know why we always waited for adult life then). School was a boring 7 hours job with lots of sports in between. We were olympics participant, we could play any game you name. Chungi, Chor-police, Chhekikasa, Cock-fight, soccer..err football, the list goes on. The three of us were so much engaged in games and night time serials (ofcourse, Night Rider) that we hardly had any time to check girls. Clothes were not a fashion statement but a thing to grab during chor-police. Girls were just another species who would sit inside the classroom eating their lunches and chatting about mundane things, all three of us hardly cared about them. Or So I Thought!! That day Saurav had a glow in his face. Dressed in three colors he had a perfect arch in his hair and his shirts were neatly tucked in, as if he was not coming back from school but was going to. "Oye mulaharu, sathi hidna!" Saurav's formal request started the conversation. "Ke garna?" Raj asked, I was still checkin Saurav out. He looked real neat. "Tyo bus stop ma sadhai pass bhai rahane tyo slim keti thyo ni, uslai bhetna."

The conversation was totally alien to us, sure we did talk about girls sometimes but never in a romantic way. "Khoi kun keti kun keti, taile matra herya hola. Tara afulai janu chhaina koi keti lai bhetna." Raj replied. "Teso nabhanna yaar. Satte, timi haru lai nabhanya matra ho, laaj lagera tara 2-3 hafta bho khali tyehi keti ko matrai yaad authyo. Malai ta jasari bhayeni tyo sanga kura garnu chha yaar, nabhayeta jhur hunchha." "Tyahi bhayera po kehi din dekhi yo ali badlya jasto dekhinthyo. 6 baje samma kaha janchha pattai hunthena." I opined. "Satte yaar, tyo keti ta jasari bhayeni chahiyo. Ahile samma yesto kahile bhathena, bhaye pachhi ta kada hudo rahechha.Aja bihana teslai himmat le bhetera gayera bhane, uskai school bus stop ma 6:00 baje aunu bhanera." Saurav looked pretty serious. When it used to rain he would show his tantrum all over, just because he couldn't play football. It was apparent that he would go there single even if we didn't accompany him, but why would we do that? After all, One of our friend was getting a..should I say..girlfriend. Teen Dharkey king was going to be knotted in a thread.... that's what I thought at that time, as if he was going to marry her that young. This probably was going to be a big step in his life and he couldn't afford to lose it, so we went along. We waited for her for about 15 minutes waiting for his dream queen. Suddenly we saw a red rajdoot approaching us. The person on the bike put it in a stand and then came toward us. "Nidhi lai kurera basne ta nai ho?" Raj and myself were dressed like we were just declared champions in cock-fight so naturally he was looking at Saurav. "Ho dai. Nidhi khai ta?" "Sun phuchhe, nidhi mero bhanji ho. Nidhi le tero kura ghar ma bhani ani ma yaha talai chutna ayeko. Timi haru fistey nai chhau, tehi bhayera mafi garidinchhu. Aainda mero bhanji sanga kura garna gais bhane bau ko bihe dekhai diula."

I could swear I heard Saurav's heart crashing. I didn't know what love was but had seen it in movies and heard that once you get it, it is pretty serious. Too bad it wasn't contagious. The gentleman put his helmet on and left us in the midst of black smoke coming out the bike muffler. I kept staring at Saurav, I couldn't say anything. I myself felt real bad and Raj was grave serious as well. I felt that any moment Saurav is going to cry or go crazy. He stood there for about 2 minutes. We didn't dare say anything and we kept standing too. Then all of a sudden, Saurav looked up in the sky tracing something. "Oye mula Teen dharkey yaar!!! Hid tyo tyahi Juju man ko khet ma khaschha, daud." He started running all of a suddent towards the outstretched field behind lazimpat. We followed him under the yellow sun and blue sky. I could tell you, we might have never ran so hard; the horizon kept stretching and the steps kept rolling on the fields. No prespiration, no exhaustion. We kept running and running to get that Kite. Teen Dharkey danced around the field for a while. ..Oh Yeah!!! Saurav caught it. THE END

LOL re? Kalanki brother, testo bhawuk bhayera lekheko, hasi dine. For real, it was supposed to be about childhood innocense and events. Wasn't thinking of putting humor factor at all, but hey I guess that's even better. Thanks for going through. By the way, it really wasn't that long. U probably didn't read my last one: - http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openthread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=16474&show=all

Lekhak, oops! Ignore that "LOL". I don't know why and how but these days I start my posting with either "LOL" or "haha". eh... some kind of weird habit stuck deep inside of my brain, that everytime I post something, my fingers itch to write "lol"... LOL. Too much time wasted on chatroom to make myself habitual to write "lol"... ;) Or may be it's something different. Don't know if everyone does the same but whenever I am reading someone elses writing, there is my own version running in the back of my sub-conscious mind... hehe... probably I was laughing at my version which might have ended differently than yours. hehe... parallel universe and quantum stuffs. eh... too scientific for me... let's not go there.. :) But, no disrespect intended. In fact it was really great to read your short story, it was simple and nicely put... eh... feels fresh. It seems like, with your story, sajha is finally re-emerging after it plunged into the deep black sea of hatred. Keep writing hau!!! ;) Gonna read your other onez too, thanks for the link...

Deep So u did get my drift when I said, I adopted somebody's style (well actually it was one more person) Ur words are still resonating as the brain is trying to process it. But thanks for going through. Kalanki I actually liked it that u had a humerous observation on the story. Thanks.

Ahhhhh such innocence, those times, ya until class 3, I thought guys were made for one purpose only, to be beaten up by girls. After class 3, I realized u can't defeat them up coz they are stronger than u, so adopted the policy, "U can't beat them, u join them ;) Anyways, nice story there like all your other stories.

Another epitome of Lekhak's candid yet poignant tale which we can all relate to! reminded me a lot of joyce's araby somehow. Let your eclectic stories flow! As for my "strings" to the past...these days all i murmur is "samaye le manis lai kaha kaha puryaucha". Among the kites, my favourite was "dariwal" the first kite i ever flew and it was like a miracle and the "black nuk" my maami bought for me from Asan during those dashain holidays. Those "wonder years" :)

Sorry couldn't follow along. Meera, thanks for the appreciation. Means a lot, and now I remember who beat me up till grade 3. Oys, by the way the inspirations I was referring to was referred to Deep and you. Totally not my style, but thought why don't I experiment it. Have to admit, not as nostalgic as your Memory Lane, brodda!
