Nepali government said they cannot guarantee security to nepalese people because they are lack of weapons. If foreign countries donot help, terrorism roots get even deeper. How could you send peace keeping troops to other countries when you are having trouble yourself. Stop sending peace keeping troops? I request UN not to accept UN Peace Keeping troops until democracy is restored. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Considerable improvement in law and order situation: King RSS KATHMANDU, July 28 - King Gyanendra has expressed happiness over Nepal's glory being highlighted in the international arena thanks to the matchless contributions made by the Royal Nepal Army, the RNA by participating in the peace keeping missions for a long time in various parts of the world at the call of the United Nations. The King made this remark while giving a message to the Naya Gorakh Battalion Peace Keepers Fourth Contingent to be assigned in Congo and the Third Contingent of the Gorakhnath Battalion Peace Keepers being assigned in Burundi at the call of the UN. The RNA has been gradually receiving widespread participation with its involvement due to the acclamation received by Nepal which has unflinching faith in the UN Charter, by sending RNA soldiers at various conflict-ridden parts of the world, the King said in the message. King Gyanendra noted that he was happy to know that gradual improvement has been seen in the anarchical state in the Central African States of Congo and Burundi because of the efficiency of RNA, while stating that considerable improvement has been seen in the internal law and order situation of Nepal from the great sacrifices made by RNA while being assigned day in and day out for the sake of the country and the people at this situation. Also present at the function was Crown Prince Paras. The message given by the King was read out by Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers Kirtinidhi Bista. (snn)

if they do not send troops for un (i.e. peace keeping mission) then there will be no RNA. do you know that it costs approx NRS 42,00,000 to train 1 second lt. and NRS 12,00,000 to train 1 regular army man. where do you think money comes from? Government budget ?? that is just enough to pay salaries to the existing army personnel.... where do you think the money for the hospital, traning, school comes from??? =================================================== as always, what do i know???

Tyahi ta, bujhnu sujhnu chhaina, stop gara bhanyo sakkyo. Baru bhako army pani utai pathaye foreign currency auchha. More army can be recruited as even the armies consider it as a golden oppertunity to go abroad. Agreed there are few instances of nepali soldiers involved in bad incidents, but Nepalese should increase their quota, instead of decreasing it. Civil war army le control garera garne kura hora!!

Actually in a way when a nations troops are used in a UN peace keeping op they become defacto mercenries anyway. Because the peace keeper's own govt gets paid a fee for every soldier sent. This is why there's always so many 3rd World countries always clamering aboard to get involved in UN peace keeping ops - there's big bicies involved. For example Ghanan peacekeepers in Somalia probably get paid $3 a day or something from their govt, while their govt is actually getting paid $20 an hour or something from the UN for every soldier actually involved in the UN op. So 3rd World govts whose soldiers are earning 3rd World wages make a good profit. Where-as with Western Soldiers on Western wages the amount the govt gets from the UN probably doesn't even match just the wage of each soldier sent, let alone all the added misc & support costs. Also with countries like the US that owe the UN millions, they just have the UN peace keeping op payments deducted from their debt, so they don't get anything back but the good feeling that comes from knowing they are in less debt to the UN.

Why do we need the army anyway? To fight against China or India? to protect Monarchy? to make kathmandu demo free city? Nepal is not even in a position to take care of Maoist problem in own country. You can recruit them for building road in Humla , Jumla or making malamchi tunnel. What are they doing whole day in Barracks. Playing cards.Going around kathmandu in evening in civil dress and catching student leaders and dismantle demos in Asontole, Kamaladi, Baneswor. I read sometime ago that RNA is going to Real state business. Our budget doest not depend on UN peace keeping troop. Our budget depends on manpower recruit in arabian countries. Rastra Bank Revenue from Nepali in Arab in 2004 was 24 Arab Rupees. Where as a nepali peace keeping troop brings 10,000 - 15000 US $ per person a year. 40,000 US $ in case of death from insurance not from UN. They are up to 100 to 250 Solders sent to wear Blue helmets in 12 Months. You can calculate how much you make from UN.

bishnu, pls. read the response before answering. u talked about RNA and peace keeping mission. Response is limited to RNA, its HMG budget allocation and that;s it. [ there is no need to digress to importance of foreign remittence to nepalese economy] [ 100-200 soldiers deployed for a year u must be dreaming dude!!! . there are at least 6000[ may be even more] RNA's deployed in UNIFIL, congo, serbia, .. ... total of 8 fronts ] budget allocated by HMG for Royal Nepalese Army[RNA] is roughly NRs 9,00,00,00,000 # of army personnel : 50,000 [ CIA facts.] average salary of 1 army personnel : NRs. 5,000/month = Nrs. 60,000/yr total salary = NRs. 3,00,00,00,000 Retired and Pensions for army personnel [ roughly 100,000 [minimum]] total pension payments = NRs. 6,00,00,00,000 u got the fact now... the money allocated by HMG for army is gone paying salary only. u want to know how much army makes in the UN deployment? here is an estimation: UN pays roughly from $1500 to $3500 per month per soldier. RNA gives depending upon ranks $300 to $700. on an average they make a solid $2000/month/soldier. Average deployment period of 6 months with 8000 active soldier deployed $192,000,000/year = NRS 13,44,00,00,000 do you get the picture how much money ??? actual figure is much more than this.... i am just giving u an idea how RNA covers its expenses. ========================================= but as always, what do i know? off-topic, but why shouldn't all foreign assistance to nepal be eliminated? is it really helping anyone who needs it? why should hardworking taxpayers of other countries have to keep shovelling money at nepal without adequate return on investment?

- Thapap comments: 6000 or 8500 Nepali soldiers income does not cover our Budget. Even 3500$ per head times 8500$.This is only a fraction of what Arabian nepali bring.and It is limited to 6 months or 1 year. There are almost 1 Million nepalis in Arabian countries. Rapidly growing this number specially in Iraq and Quwait. Even US army is employing Nepalis in Iraq. They are doing kitchen work in US Barracks. Cooking and distributing food for US Army. This trend is growing. You cannot believe anybody else than Nepalis in this field at this moment. Even Qatar wants to increase the Quota for Nepalis to 450000. This time even skilled worker like Engineers and doctors.

There is more demand of Nepali peace keeping force for different countries. It will be better for Nepal if they ask all Maoist to report to Peace Keeping mission office and send them to diffent countries. That will help to improve economy of people from rural areas, country will also earn foreign currency and all violation will also be stopped.
