We all know King Gyanendra usurped the power on February 1, 2005 through a coup and since then he is presiding over a regime with a corrupt and criminal coterie. The regime has unleashed an environment of terror through the royal militia called the Royal Nepali Army (RNA) as well as several death squads created on its behalf. These royal militia and the death squads continue to kill innocent lives of Nepali sons and daughters in the name of a so-called counter-insurgency. Keeping in view the undemocratic actions of the king, the international community has stopped most of the bilateral and multilateral military as well as non-military aid to the royal regime protesting the king?s autocratic actions and its blatant human rights abuses. Nonetheless, King Gyanendra and his henchmen are not fettered. What makes them so bold to unleash tyranny over the Nepali people? The answer: the remittance money from the estimated 1.5 million Nepalis living and working abroad (other than India) sent to Nepal each day to buy land, build living quarters, pay loans, and educate the children. The latest official figures show remittances from Nepalis living abroad accounts for 20% of Nepal?s 6.5 billion U.S. dollar Gross Domestic Product ( GDP). Because more than 60% of these foreign remittances enter Nepal through informal - thus, unaccounted channels ? the contributions of we the Nepalis residing and working abroad to economy of Nepal can be much higher than official records indicate. We can, therefore, safely assume that the hard-earned money of Nepali expatriates contributes about 50% GDP of Nepal. What does this mean in the current political situation? At least 50% of Nepal?s internal revenue ? money that, cumulatively, sustains a nation that cannot sustain itself and which is being used in suppressing its own citizens - is direct or indirect contribution of we, the Nepali expatriates, around the globe. What would happen if we collectively stopped sending non-emergency money to Nepal? The royal regime ? that has forecasted spending 66% of its budget for Fiscal Year 2005/2006 in non-development sector, of which around 11% is defense budget - would crumble financially. The income that sustains the regime would fail to flow. If it looses 100% of its foreign grant money for Fiscal Year 2005/2006 plus close to 50% of the projected domestic revenue (domestic revenue being remittance money sent to Nepal) the regime?s inability to govern Kathmandu would become imminent. If we wish, therefore, to demonstrate our democratic republican aspirations, we can fight against the corrupt and autocratic royal regime and the RNA terrorism with our financial weapon, i.e., we can use it to help choke the regime to death financially by not sending any money to Nepal. A remittance boycott that would result in a catastrophic budget deficit in Fiscal Year 2005/2006 is a powerful, non-violent weapon we have in our hands. Therefore, Canadian Network for Democratic Nepal (CNDN) strongly appeals to all concerned that no Nepalis abroad send non-emergency money to family and friends in Nepal. We also humbly request that all Nepali community organizations active around the globe participate in our financial impediment drive and disseminate this appeal to members and friends urging them not to send money to Nepal before the demise of the autocratic royal regime. Together, we can help make this a reality to build new Nepal.

lemme ask you guys a question. did the international embargo on iraq during the 90's weaken saddam's regime? the answer would be a big fat emphatic NO!!!! on the contrary, poor iraqis became poorer, and saddam's grip on power solidified. how can ppl muster up the energy to revolt when they don't have food in their stomachs? the question that you asked is simply wishful thinkin. it ain't happenin. the poor cook working in dubai who left his family behind so that he could provide a higher quality of life ain't gonna stop sending the money back to his mom and wife (who would probably starve otherwise) just cos some dumbo said so...

Totally agreed with Zalim on this one. Why people come up with such a stupid idea that only effects the commoners. Morons, what is the norm of democracy? Its for the people. Why do you forget its for the people and not for the poltical leaders. Instead of these stupid ideas, why do not you look at errors made in the past? How come king came back into power? First of all these stupid ass leaders should develop a common ground. With all these shits they are still fighting. Come up with concrete plan to deal with insurgency, corruption and plans to avoid previous mistakes. No body gives a fuc* cause still there are people who can use their brain. ONce stabbed in the back, I aint ready for it again. Moron Paribartan, you need to whiped in the open ground to come up with such a ridiculous idea. This shows your true self and I fuc*ing spit on it.

Bathroom sir, I bet there wouldn't be such a fun in sajha if there were no talks and only actions. Otherwise there wouldn't be all these fuggin fuggers to amuse you and eventually us, haina ta? ;) On to the topic itself, Paribartan's appeal on behalf of Canadian Network for Democratic Nepal (CNDN) is rhetorical but it hardly serves the purpose of its articulation. He is guided by the misconception that Gyanendra's regime will be crippled if we don't send our earnings to our kins back home. He has plenty of wealth to fund for his autocratic enterprise already.Rather families dependent on their member(s) working abroad will suffer if they are not remitted. The truth is dictators will cherish if people's living standard deteriorates and the economy crumbles, as it is lot easier to enforce command on weaker people. These are not Nalapani times. You got to win people's support to defeat dictators. For that, pro-democratic people and alliances should expose to the public the potentially dangerous consequences of allowing a dictatorship to set its foothold in power. See how people could not effectively oppose Gyanendra immidiately after Feb 1 and as a result how he has stamped his authority over the state's affairs in a matter of less than a year? See how he has enforced medieval regulations to thwart private sector media and curtail informations to the people ? And imagine what will he do if he is allowed to stay in power for more years? Its high time for the pro-democratic alliances to change themselves according to the public expectations and win people's heart so that they can be dragged to the streets for a mass revolt against dictatorship. How about strengthening the mass rather? How about sponsoring the civil society for carrying awareness programmes against the dictatorship? How about asking your family members to get on to the streets against the autocrat? How about disobeying draconian rules and giving tough times to authorities that try to impose restrictions against them? There is an emergency to stop the dictator. The only way to stop is to bring hundreds of thousands of people in streets in defiance of the regime. This can happen not by imposing economic sanctions to your own family but by asking them to defy every moves of the dictator. Ask your brothers and sisters to attend peaceful protests. Tell your family to turn off the sate owned radio and TV, not to buy Gorkhapatra, not to listen to the speech of Gyanendra and his ministers, not to assemble where their henchmen gather, not to trust what they say, not to follow their directives that are against individual liberties, not to buy goods and services from businesses owned by Gyanendra, his relatives, aides and associates. Tell your kins in the government offices to defy unlawful minisiterial orders. Tell them to wear black armbands while at work. Tell people not to vacate the streets when the blood thirsty dictator's family roams around in Kathmandu. Just don't let them do 'manpari'. Defy Gyane's regime massively and collectively. He will eventually succumb.

Nuser!!!! Hey I am not camplaining about the entertainment factor here. But you can only hear the same story so many a times before it starts to get under yer skin. Thus the political bashing commences. Let me be fair to both sides:- ProKing people Bitching and complaining about the politicians of all dirfferent parties(corruption, negligence..etc etc). The AntiKing folks bitching and complaining about(authoritarian regime, lack of press freedom, cooruption etc. etc). Here I am a bystander watching both TAMASAAA ...you tell me. I think both parties are guilty, corrupt, and responsible for the current situation in Nepal. I don't trust either of them( the Monarchy system before 1990 or the Demoqwaaashi after 1990 till present). Personally I think Nepal was better off during monarchy than the Demoqwashy years. If you look at things like the economic indicators, social stability, law and order, education qwality etc etc We were better off pre 1990. 15 years of Demoqwashi took Nepal from bad to worse. Unemployment skyrocketing---> these people have no jobs, so security, thus the daily protests in the streets leading to kaos and lawlessness(also one the contributing factors of these very people joining the Mao Rebels). Just look at the value of Nepali Rupees where it is now from where it was( if anyone is noticing). Look at quality of education---> these selfish politicians would have these kids rallying for them in streets than in classrooms. These kids are future of Nepal but these fuggin politicians would rather use them for their own petty purposes than realize than they are hadicapping the future of Nepal. Then we hear all the self acclaimed experts come tell us this and that(both pro and anti government). Do these fuggers really think that NEPALI people are that stoopid ? That we not aware of what is going on ? he he

Now Fug sir, It seems that u got ur stats wrong...We were not better off during panchayet regime...The corruption were also skyrocketing those times....it was just that, they won't make headlines as whoever make them headlines would face the consequences just like PADAM THAKURATHI...and if u haven't heard about some of the kandas like pisang kanda,Namita Namrata kanda, Patan Durbar square kanda, and loads of other kandas, then u are ignorant of situations of Nepal those days. Do u even know that more than 30 % of the Jungles of eastern Nepal were deforestrated during 2036 BS elections just to use those money to defeat the democratics... Well these are just few examples...and Do u know how the money that could have been used in building so many othe roads were used solely for Dharan Dhankuta road, just beacuse that was Surya Bahdur Thapa's place. Well list goes on... and About the economic indicators, there were no real on the ground stats at those times, the information system developed so much during the democratic system that real picture came out...and the economic situation of Nepal is just not due to the democratic period but also due to the 300 years of royal and rana tyranny. Well I agree that the corruption and demonstrations skyrocketed during democratic period,But see how much time has democratic system got in our country...Any system should have enough time before it is analysed...That all I can say... Well thought u were for Democracy here in Sajha, But why not in our Country???...:) Nirman~*

Nirman, Let me pick on you. You mentioned about Surya B. Thapa. He was PM in so called demoratic era here as he should have thrown in jail for his part in Panchayat. I mean to say there was no real differnce in Panchayat and so called democracy. The corruption was prevalent and so were the criminals. No sense of law and order. The voice of the people was never heard. So, my question why should I spend my effort to bring the same old corrupt polticians in the power in the name of democracy? I sure do not want maoists in the power. I do not loke what KG is doing but what is my option?

Thesedays politics is becoming a boring topic. With the political parties on the verge of collaboration with the Maoists, I wonder what will happen if they are able to drive out the king. The maoists are supposed to have their stronghold on almost 60% of Nepal currently. Let's say the Maoists collaborate with the other democratic parties and oust the king. What is going to happen after that? Are the Maoist now going to release the 60% of Nepal that they have stronghold on and agree on a multiparty democracy? Or will they be unwilling to give up the places they have their hold on? How is it going to play out? or is it going to throw Nepal into a never ending civil war?

Yeah, I agree Highfly....But what I was saying was We should at least have a good system to practice our rights...don't We??? Once We have our basic rights, at least we can raise our voice...Ok, what if there was peace, peace without right would do justice for u??? and talking about corrupt poliicans, they would be bypassed by the people themselves in the meantime, But don't people have rights to be aware of them???...well Nepalese didn't have even got enought time to thrash the corrupt politicians by themselves...at least they deserve this!!! शान्त नेपाल भन्दैमा आउने मुर्दा शान्ति मलाइ चाहिँदैन!!!...:) Nirman~*

Nirman, One thing I fail to agree with you is I feel like our voice was never heard. We never got our basic rights. But if we have peace, then our rigths for survival without fear is may be satisfied. Then together we can work to bring the rule of freedom and democracy. We cannot cross the ocean with a sinking ship filled with traitors. First we need to get rid of traitors and be on the same strong boat to work together for peace and prosperity and democracy. As Saroj mentioned, I fear a long war. With maos and parties collabaroting I feel there should be other force that will target maos, corrupt leaders and royalist. But I do not believe in violence. I think it brings more violence. But I definately feel like we need to get together and have a formiddable force which do not include traitors like Giriaja, Prachanda, and so on. Then we can work for peace and what is practical. I really do not believe king will let go the thrown. It should be step by step process. First bring the democracy with strong framework.Slowly Curtail the power of King. The power should be decentralized to the public but the public should be knowledgible about their power first. Too much with mublings. I am lost as everyone else. peace

Nirman, I dunno if I want to get into this conversation for the 100th time or not. But you talk as if the country was a lot better off during the Demoqwashiii years than the Panchayat years(I DO NOT SUPPORT EITHER PARTY). I am not saying the Panchayat years were any better or worse than current. But if you look at all the crucial elements that propel a society or culture in the path of developement and properity.....the pre 1990 era wins hands down. Schools were open, country was stable(thus foreign investment was more available), to some degree the was law and order(not saying they were not corrupt but did not have gun toting insurgents running around the country). And your complaint about the 300yrs of tyranny ha ha ha. You think I am blind don't you ? he he I was there ..not for all 300 yrs but for the latr 20yrs of that 300. Yes I heard about all the Kanda's you are talking about, but that was at the most 1000-2000 people that were vitims. Compare that to 12000 victimized by the so called DEMOQWASSHIII.....in the name of freedom. And your reason grating time before analyzing ....he he you mean to tell me 15yrs is not enough ? What was the value of Nepali ruppes against US dollars before 1990 ? And what is it now ? Are you fuggin tellin me that we are better now ? By saying this you are insulting the intelligence of Nepali folks.

Nirman you are talking like a stone age dweller. I can only account for the time I WAS THERE. If you want to flip the fuggin history pages...he he we all would have our own little countries, but what relevence would it have to current situation in Nepal(as if that would make the country better). he he And Nepali people never got their chance ? huh !!!! Then how come you are here. How come there are all the Nepali students studying all over the world ? They did start in Nepal didn't they ? Gotta give them credit for that right ? Yeah thaha cha tyo belama rajpariwar ley ke ke garyo bhanera ? But compare that to the 12000 killed since the demoqwashii post 1990. You do the math. bottom line what is the biggest industry in Nepal for foreign income ? How has it been faring post 1990 ? I rest my case.
