We have enough resources, we need to fight with Taskari king who takes 63 karod Rs. from us (Nepalese) just for his relax life. On the other hand, we are recognized as Bahadu and saying "cleaning dishes and toilet has been our National occupation." In addition, 10 of thousand police and Army are being used to sourinnd the royal palace(how they get paid,does Gyane paid them?) 10 of Thousands of young NP- people roaming around in Arab, Korea, USA, and all over the world for job. However, we and our new coming generation will not have to work in foreign land, if we kick out the root of Nepali's enemy (Gyane: Raj tantra or manpari tantra). If there will be the government run by people of Nepal (full democracy or no monarchy get involved), of course police and Army will run by Nepalese people, so that peace will establish. As report said, 90% tourism will increase; 85% hotel, restaurant, and airlines job will create; 95% travel and trekking agencies will run in profit. The developmental works will be done very easily, such as constriction, electricity, water supply; and we will have modern education syste in every field. Crime control, finger printing system or criminal and even credit check system and law suit will work properly(there is an angency which is willing to provide the necessary technology and information system to record the criminal data and other misuses, so that it helps a lot to stop having such bad thing within just 2.5 karod people. And, media is always ready to publish or explore to blast the News, so that people will know what's happyning) . Moreover; manufactures, business, INGO, and NGO as well as foreign investments will increase, so that there won't be scarce of job in Nepal(coz we are just above 2 karod people). I think our leaders realize these stuffs, and will make no mistakes. If they will, People's power always be there to do right thing for people's rights. I spoke with one of my friends who was my counterpart student, but we were taking same Calculus class just before posting this MSG, on April, 22, 06. He has been practicing FBI training as soon as his completion of his degree majoring in criminal Justice. My conversation with him regarding King's feudalism that made him sucks. We are optimistic people, hard working, and honest as well as sincere, so there is no doubt that Nepal will be the #1 best place to live in ten yrs from now, as US Dept. of state deputy secretary recently assured our GPK gov. to provide all kinda help as needed to establish the peaceful and democratic Nepal. Moreover, we will get help from Germany, Japan, UK, Spain, India, Korea and all over the developed democratic countries. later on, we will have own economic stand, as soon as tourism booming, having advance agriculture system, and operating the exporting manufacturer business.......

Mr. Gallant what has the King done to be called a dictator? It was during the King's rule that Maoists were NOT extracting money ! When there is mob in the street it is the duty of the govt to stop them. What will your chutiya spam do if there is similar mob in the street- wait and watch !

Did you read news: 24 hrs curfew, killed 2 dozens and beaten thousand while having peaceful demon...... on the other side of token, you saw 100s of thousand illegal have protested here in USA, but none got hurt. You see the different...... you know those illegal supposed to deport according to the law, but got their rights, HUMAN RIGHT..... I don't wanna compare US with NP, but why those Mandale still have lost their brain or incapable to think that we all human being must recognize to the humanbeing with respect. Why is there a problem ruling by SPA, you know SAP leaders regretted their past mistakes. This time, they come up with new agenda to work for Nepal &Nepali people?

Then it came again. Deserted roads, burnt tires, and without work! Wow, what a day for the protest!

Hundreds of people flocked in the streets while this man who used to live on his daily earnings is looking into the garbage cans trying in vain to find something to eat. The leaders have the pleasure of eating “basmati” rice when they get back home after the tiring protests in the streets but this guy who works as a conductor for a microbus is without food or even shelter when he gets back. And, he is deprived of work, thanks to the frequent “bandhs.”

It is not the first day; in fact we have been living with it, like every other part of our body. There are costs associated with movements. While the movement might be for the best of Nepalese, it has failed to use the right means to get to its goals.

We condemn Maoists for killings. We condemn them for using wrong means to attain their goals. While some of the questions raised by Maoists might be good, not all are realizable and progressive. The issues of caste discrimination might be a just cause for protest, but the issue of absolute equality is not. They have to think of the gains made during the period of democracy with respect to the alleviation of absolute poverty. One has to be pragmatic and not idealistic. Whatever be their reasons for dissent, they have not used right means for the benefit of Nepalese.

Similarly, the political parties failed to understand the sentiments of the Nepalese people. While their propaganda is as good as it sounds, it failed to address issues which have been pressing the poor masses who have to struggle daily for survival. Freedom has its costs. One should not be deprived of his work for the sake of freedom of another. One cannot be denied his freedom for the sake of granting freedom to another. Every individual has to be respected.

One needs to understand that rights come with responsibilities. If you cannot respect the equal rights of others, you cannot claim your rights either. This same problem persists in our march for freedom. We have failed to understand the problems faced by the lower class people who depend on their daily incomes for survival. We are rich enough to sustain several days of “bandhs” while they are not. Aren’t we being selfish here?

Some argue that one has to sacrifice his/her interests for the greater benefit to mankind. But, this is absolutely wrong. Why should one sacrifice his interests for the sake of other people? Why can’t others do the same to him? Why can’t others sacrifice their interests for his benefit? If others can’t do it, he should not be forced to do it either. It is his every right to work within the legal framework respecting the equal rights of others.

People make a great deal of fuss about the so-called “agitation for democracy” but they are acting as autocrats while designing their movements against the monarch. Democrats are being hypocrites when they shut down the shutters of
New Road

or Putalisadak. They claim to work for freedom but they are not practicing it. Freedom for us should not come at the expense of the freedom of other people. Just the other day, a person was killed in Pokhara. Why should he sacrifice his life for our benefit? Who is responsible for this? What alternatives does his family have to sustain living? Has anyone cared to think of this? A big “NO.” No doubt, they will protest against the killing, it will provide them with more reasons to protest but his life is gone. We cannot get it back. He suffered when he could have done without.

If it were you, would you die for the benefit of other people? If you cannot, you should not expect others to be ready to sacrifice their lives for freedom of Nepalese. Leaders should take full responsibility for the killing of this person. The government is equally responsible.

I know many of you will despise me for writing against the movement, but I am for the right of every person to be alive. I am for the right of everyone to work. We should not limit the freedom of others when we think of our own freedom. I know it is easy to blast the movement from here but still it is a great tragedy of the agitation that the poor have suffered again.

(note:Please be mindful that this article was written while the movement in Nepal was at its peak sending thousands of poor folks to starvation. Despite the good outcome, we could have done away with the monarchy in some other ways. Now the challenge is to address the aspirations of the people. The changes made so far to restrict monarchy are not enough, we need some actions to help foster growth and prosperity in the country.)

well the palace is like a mafia family and the RNA (now Nepal Army) like their private army, so what can you do? the recent protest was about changing this exploitative set up, since both these entities are funded by people's taxes!

there is nothing wrong with the SPA trying to bring the RNA under the control of the PM. people have been paying for the support of RNA with their hard earned money, and the RNA should be held accountable / responsible to the people - not to the palace! This is standard practice everywhere in the world. This movement was not about reinstating " royal democracy" (competitive multiparty democracy and hereditary constitutional monarchy), this movement was about ushering "samabeshi loktantra" with the Constituent Assembly to decide on the fate of Monarchy. and Constituent Assembly is not just a Maoists' demand. Lest you forget, go back to 2007 B.S. and revisit Nepal's history and you will know it’d been a demand of Congress Party and also other parties then.

the failure of the 2046 movement was its failure to bring the army under the civilian control, so to speak. let's hope it succeeds this time.

lest royalists & reactionaries are quick to blame the political parties of corruption and what not, let me clarify that the abuse of power and misuse of money by the palace and its chamchas have made even the poster boys of corruption - Mr. Govinda Raj Joshi & Chiranjibi Kumar Wagles - look like saints with “halos” around their heads in comparision. Given the choice between anyone representing the palace and Mr. Govinda Raj Joshi, for instance, my vote will go to Mr. Govinda Raj Joshi each and every time. You want to know why?

This is because under "loktantra", eventually Mr. Govinda Raj Joshi cannot get away with corruption for very long. He will run out of luck sooner or later. He stands as an indicator of the maturity level of the democratic set up of Nepal. The instance he falls, we will know for certain that democracy is coming off age!

But under "constitutional monarchy", the palace's abuse of power or misuse of people's money is for eternity. As long as they are above the constitution, you cannot "bell the cat". They can even get away with murder, and allegedly have on more occasions than one.

It's not like the palace doesn't have lots of business stakes - with relative/absolute advantages over other private companies. They don’t have to pay custom duties - or income taxes. They have no business running a business empire (if they don’t want to play by market rules) and sucking up peoples' money at the SAME TIME. They have no business running National Parks & KMTNC on top of their business empire and people’s money. What could be more exploitative than this! This is fascism! This is greed run amuck! Which is why the toothless stripped kings of India are offering their daughters to our Kings' sons or sons to the daughters of our top army brass? They want to share in the spoils of the palace and the army. Alread the army, the palace and the obsolete kings of gujarat/baroda/or wherever have divvied up Nepal for themselves - leaving nothing for ordinary Nepalis. The BJP/VHP/Shiva Sena also want a piece of the action, which is why they have always supported autocratic monarchy in Nepal...

When the palace sometimes preached about how free market economy or liberalising Nepali economy is good for Nepal, I have almost puked. You think these guys are for fostering competition. I think they are for killing off market competition, if any.

Ultimately what was wrong with the palace and the RNA was that they were intent on running Nepal like it was their own company, NEPAL INC - but with the hard earned money of the people. This was an out and out exploitative system - the worst elements of feudalism combined with the worst elements of capitalism!

And the RNA was actually supporting this system! The Thapas/Basnyat/Ranas were being paid off handsomely to support this exploitative system with the guns, choppers, tanks, if need be.

The RNA is not without its problems. They are by and large composed of poor Nepali people – they have the kind of farmers’ face - and they have to wash clothes / cook foods /run errands for their masters. These soldiers’ salaries are paid by the people's money, yet they are told to protect the palace at the expense of the people. They are taught that ‘the people are their enemies”. What nonsense!

The top army brasses' sons (who are also in the army) are stationed safely in Kathmandu, whereas these poor RNA soldiers - intended sacrificial lambs - have to fight it out in the Maoist heartland. You think the RNA is what it's cracked out to be. Mind you, it is a private army of the palace. It will sacrifice as many soldiers (children of people) as it takes to strengthen the palace and the few top army brass.

You don't need evidence to prove how bad monarchy & rna have been. Our great great great parents have lived under their system and we've lived under their system as well. And if we don't watch out, our children and grand children are gonna get it even worse.

Orwell wrote: Imagine a boot pressing your face to the ground FOREVER. this is what has characterized autocratic monarchy and RNA ever since King Prithvi and intensified after the royal coup of Feb 1.

The SPA declaration has declawed and defanged the palace, and I hope it will bring the army under the control of the people as soon as possible, even if it has to remove some top army brass. This declaration – the Nepali “magna carta – the outcome of the rhodendron revolution - is good for the people as well as for the poor Nepali army soldiers who have been exploited for too long.

The rule of a few over the majority is finally over. The USA and UK have supported the declaration. So has India. The sooner the top army brass gets this message, the better it is for all concerned.
