time has come to scrap the image of the king from the rupee bill....i have a few names in mind (which i thought would be generally accepted without much controversy), and which i think should be kept on a permanent basis like the U.S. which also saves the hassle of changing images everytime a king changes, apart from other "obvious" reasons:

i suggest different ethnic people representing nepal in their ethnic bheshbhusha on the front and national / natural monuments on the back.

the idea is good but maynot be feasible due to the large unmber of ethnic groups in our country....so i donot think it would be a good idea to select one ethnic group over another

If you are to remove KINGS then fine I would for "RASTRIYA BIBHUTI" rather than POLITICAL FIGURES.

They are acceptable figures than POLITICAL controversial MONEY/POWER hungry ppl.

God it is so difficult to find non controversial figures in nepal. everyone carries some baggage of bad deeds.

just print Nepali flag and symbol like national flower, Kukri, Gurkhas, Sherpas on the front page of the note and national monument/landscape like everest, map of nepal, lumbini on the back page.

what's so hard about it. We don't need any political figures because 99.999999% are corrupted. But Gurkha is known throughout the worrld and so are the Sherpas.

I would imagine Changing the image on the bill would cost a lot, but gotta do it anyways.

Pictures on the money should be of public buildings, not any individual picture. New money was printed when Gyanendra took office, it could be done again.

Guys, this is, at least for now, a hypothetical discussion. Even, iraq which destroyed most of saddam husseins statues, has not yet disbanded all of the bills carrying his photo, cause thats econimics not politics.

The standard pratice in most countries for currencies, other than monarchs, is usually important historical figures, though there are some exceptions. For the Euro, for example, they decided to use drawings of some buildings representing European architecture, but didn't use any existing buildings (since having a building in one country on the 500 euro bill and another on the 5 bill might be percieved as unfair).

Nepali history is multi-threaded and there are few very important figures who are significant (in a positive fashion) to all or even most Nepali ethnic groups. Thus it seems like monuments are a good idea. Nearly all Nepali architecture is Newari but this is not really a problem because its the dominant form of architecture for most Nepali ethnic groups for a long time (including the Khas people, if you look at the architecture of Khas Mallas or even of the current temples in Gorkha). Its also one of the areas where Nepal was a powerhouse since pagodas went to China, Japan and other countries from Nepal and gained huge popularity.

Landscape is probably not a good idea because it doesn't reflect the skills and culture of the Nepali people, which should be what comes out in the currency. Its also generally a good idea to have all notes of the same time (ie: either buildings, or people, etc...) and not to have some with temples and a random one with a khukuri and others of a completely different theme. Khukuri is also controversial because it is very ethnicity-specific and the khukuri probably caused more harm than good,

do you mean that all this while by having King in the note that it was reflecting skills and culture.

and why not kukri. it's a nationall symbol. even foreigners know this due to gurkha soldiers. therefore what's wrong with palcing kukri. ?
i don't mind having temples and pagodas in the note and why should you care if kukri is printed or not.

One person truly deserving to be on neplese note is Gautam buddha... Look at the millions of follower of his dharma... nepal has not produced anything similar to him in last 2500 years...
