I suggest you visit the International Advisor at your University....as he/she would be the person equipped with all the answers to your querries..
Congratulations (in advance) & Good luck!

pretty easy for F-2 if you have all the documetns, affidative of support, letter from your advisor, stating how long is your duration for your grad school left.

but then if she comes in F-2, she cant study here.

Yes, Talk with your International Advisor. I assume your marriage is fixed...I mean you know the name and date of birth of your spouse. Get I-20 in her name from the university. For Interview at US Embassy, take small album of wedding pictures too. Visa should not be a problem.
Yes, F-2 students can not study and can not work legally. But I have seen some who came to US on F-2 and later on conerted into F1.
Good Luck.

Yes, you can bring your wife here easily. Get married first and let your wife apply for F2 visa. All she has to prove during her visa interview is your valid student status and prove of your marriage. That's it. I have so many friends out there who brought their wives like that.

Xugaz!Here is what I did,

1.Make an I-20 for her. its called I-20 for your dependent. The international office issues one. Make sure that you have enough financial support.
2. Ask the international office to write a" letter of your status verification". Which tells that you are not out of status.
3. Ask the registar office for an official transcript .

Send those documents to your spouse and believe me , you will have your honeymoon back in US very soon.

Good-Luck

Hey XuqaZ...i think its not that hard to bring yur wife here if u are in F1 status but the problem is u have to show certain income level from the School (as F1 can't work offcampus)....The regular income ($$15,000 per year or more--just an example, not sure abt this) should be from on campus employment like GA, TA and other research assistantship. i am not sure if u have any but it is necessary otherwise there will be problem to get visa for yur wife...So, make sure abt that..talk to yur intl advisor...coz i have seen lots of people's spouses get stuck there just becoz their document is not enough..and i think it would be no probem to bring yur wife here if u able to show campus employment rather than showing bank statement with lots of money...

In my case I had GA. It was mentioned in the I-20 for dependent in terms of amount of support of University. I did not submit any other financial docs. They specially try to verify if your marriage is genuine or not (May be some try for visa on fake marriage). With strong evidence like pictures of cultural marriage, it should not be a problem. One thing is missing in above discussion. Yes, you need to have 'Marriage Certificate'. Take the marriage invitation card too when going for interview.
