Usually, the best destresser is engaging yourself in something, I think.
Listening to music is very powerful for me. (pink floyd is the shit)
Another is working out. I like doing aerobic exercises, running on the elliptical or cycling. Bhoodi laa thyo, ghataunu paryo.
And occasionally, I engage in playing strategy games. Right now, I play Age of Empires 3.
Reading books , spiritual ones (especially), going for a walk, playing the guitar or other musical instrument, chilling with friends, all of these are destressers too.
I don't about the long-term effect ( I mean in terms of turning into an alcoholic) but drinking a glass or two of wine should be good as well. But you have to keep it moderate.

i agree with the devil!! talk about it, whatever is bothering you.. get it out.. also, engage in sth. that you like and something that you excel.. something in the line passingthru is saying tara still the best way is to be with ur friends and family.. don't isolate urself.. see brighter things in ur life..
i know at the end of the day, it is one of those things that is easier said than done.
depression is really depressing..
