The Nepali Women’s Global Network (NWGN) is proud to announce that it is now accepting
submissions for its first annual essay contest. Winners will each receive a cash award of $500 to be put
toward their tuition and/or the expenses associated with their first year at college.
For Eligibility You Must:

#Be a female of Nepali ancestry
#Attending a U.S. high school in the 2007-2008 academic school year
#Submit an original essay on the topic of your choice by March 31, 2008
#Submit a registration form (page 2). Forms are also available online at www.nepaliwomen.org

Essay Competition Guidelines

This contest is an opportunity for individuals to express their understanding of the world they live in
and the impact our personal, social and political action has on the larger society. Contestants are
requested to express their views and experiences on one of the following four topics:

#Reflections on growing up Nepali in the United States
#Specific or general struggles and/or triumphs of Nepali Women
#How the writer will use her talents to enhance the future of the Nepali community
#Female role models

Essay Format
# 2-3 pages in length TYPED in English (approximately 900 words)
#Double spaced
#Standard 1.0 margins
#Standard 12 point Times New Roman font
#Personal narrative is optional
#One entry per person

Participants must be the writers and owners of the narratives submitted to the writing competition. No
copyrighted material may be submitted.
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

Originality
Relatedness to Nepali Women theme
Style
Two winners will be selected and their names will be announced in April 2008. Winners will receive
their award during the first annual NWGN Conference that will be held August 9, 2008 at the
University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus.

Do something for Nepal girls IN NEPAL. People here don't need help like this. $500 is just about month here but that will work for whole year in NEPAL.

Why are you guys so pissed of for wrong reason?
What is wrong with this essay criteria.
$500 won't do any good, yes neither does 1 million.

The idea of having high school females taking part in this type of scholarship is a sort of reality check for them.
Take for instance, a Nepali high school teenager will do some research before writing the essay. She will have better perspective of nepali women.
Dude, it's not always about money. Think about the hundreds of high school student participating in the essay scholarship, and think about knowledge they will gain. The first generation of nepali kids are here and if no steps are taken to take their interest then we might as well loose them.

I think the essay should be typed in Nepali. that would be more effective i guess.
