Gender and sex discrimination is widespread - even so in Nepal. I believe if everyone does their little part some day we might be able to overcome this problem. Why not get together and appreciate brave Nepalese women who leave the comfort of their homes and come to the US to get an education? Student life is tough and I believe $500 tuition contribution from our side will help. We have been thinking of organizing something called an "Interstate Talent Hunt" - feel free to suggest a better name. In short we will be doing this on a semester basis and the winner will be awarded $500. Tentative Rules: Each contestant will submit a profile with a picture. Tell us about themselves and what they are doing. What they have done. How they believe empowering a woman can change society. And what they think we should do. Based on each contestants overall picture profile, registered sajha users will vote once for each pic. (1-10 scale.) Sajha.com registration is free and I encourage you to do so I u have not already. At the end of the semester whoever has the highest average wins (Still to figure out the details.) The winner's school will receive a $500 check to be credited against her tuition. Please not this is not so much about hot/not and more about beauty in ones accomplishments/dreams and well yea a cute lil face too. Thats about it. Feel free to share your comments in support/against this idea.

That sounds like a great idea KillemAll. I think it will encourage women/gals to show how great they are and express their talents. And I can tell you, $500 for a semester will immensely help reduce tensions and free up time for studies and extra curricular activites. I can defintely help with generating the $500 winner prize. Please keep us posted with progress/changes. Great work

Maddog: Thanks for your support.
abc_n_xyz: The winner can do whatever with the money: send it to Nepal or pay tuition. We want to encourage contestent participation and for that reason we leave the choice to them. and ya there are lot of talented people out there who are not rich. Not an opinion - a fact! talanted != rich
Im sure we have lots of talented nepalese students here struggling to pay college tuition. CAN I GET A HELL YEA HERE??? anyone?
Miss Spring: Not a protfolio with lots of modeling pictures. Just one pic and a profile. We are more interested in the personality of participants - thier ideaz and important undertakings in life - than their poses. And yes participants will have to post thier pic and profile by themselves. Judges can only vote 1-10 n thats it. The profile will not accept comments from anyone.
Males are welcome to post a profile but the idea here is to promote women empowerment and help boost confidence of aspiring and talented Nepalese women.
I know a lot of ladies are thinking "Hey why would I want to be judged by god knows how many people in public?" Quite frankly I dont know. Why do people do modeling/acting/singing/radio-tv anchors etc? Why do people create facebook/hi5 profiles? There are a lot of ladies whose profile are public. Wouldnt it be nice to get an $500 check instead of a e-beer/e-margarita or what have you?
Finally, if it is only a picture keeping you from posting a profile - do so without one. Some people might not want to display thier real name - which is perfectly fine. We would still like to know everything else about you! Life is not always about winning.

Maddog, I think you misunderstood my statement above. I am not against the idea nor ridiculing it.
I was just lil skeptical about the practicality of implementation of what Kille suggested..nothingelse. My question was,are they, gal and/or guy, willingly post their pic and and other sorts of details in public forums? Just my query.
Nonetheless, it sounds like a great idea.

In my opinion, Killemall should increase the prize amount to as much as $2000 to really get any female student's attention. $2000 pretty much pays for a semester's tuition if she is in a community college. If she goes to an expensive university, it pretty much pays for her year long meal plan. As far as raising $2000 is concerned, you might want to talk to web admin to chip in a little bit. Or you can go talk to an outside sponsor. It's really doable. ABC bro is talking sense as well. But as far as women are concered, they belong to different brackets. ABC is talking about the ones in upper echelon. Most of the girls who come to study in the US belong to that bracket. And seriously i dont think $500 is going to turn their heads.

Good to hear your comments people. Keep em coming. After all this is how we will get an estimate of whether this idea of a talent hunt is going to work. As far as the prize amount is concerned, yes it would be nice to raise it but that depends on the level of participation and sponsors. abc n xyz Thank you for sharing your opinion regarding this issue. Although we do not agree, I encourage and look further to exchanging ideas regarding this project. In defense to your latest statement: The idea behind the entire project is to promote and encourage women independence - not to buy it for $500. I apologise if you got that idea from my posts, I should have made myself clearer. As far as your news of women going ahead of men is concerned, I am disturbed to learn your perception of reality. For crying out loud millions of women get abused on a daily basis - physically, emotionally, socially and culturally - particularly in 3rd world countries. Although the playing field has gotton better for women in much of the developed world, it is by no means level. To ignore a problem does not illiminate it, however, by recognising it and by taking minute steps towards a solution atleast leads us in the right direction - may it be in 5 dollar increments. We also do not want to get ahead of ourselves. Realistically speaking maybe this project is only going to help someone pay a fraction of his/her tuition and do nothing more. Worst case scenario: we will have fun learning about each other and how is that ever a bad thing?
