MISSOURI CITY, Texas -- A high school junior has been charged with murder in the death of a store clerk, KPRC Local 2 reported.Missouri City police arrested 17-year-old Elkins High School student Raymond Whitcher on Wednesday.Investigators said he admitted to the killing.Police pieced together clues from surveillance video and tips from informants that led to the teen's arrest."The
video we looked at was horrible," Capt. John Bailey said. "The suspect
in this case gave no warning to the clerk; gave the clerk no
opportunity to escape."On Sept. 28, police said Whitcher, walked
into the First Stop Food Store on Cartwright Road with a rifle. They
said he shot the store's clerk, 21-year-old Ashok Bhattarai, and took
off with $5,000.Police said Whitcher started flashing large
amounts of money at school and his classmates became suspicious. During
their investigation, police said they also discovered the teen, who is
unemployed, bought a car days after the shooting -- and paid for it
with cash.Whitcher was later involved in a traffic accident.
Police called him in to ask about the accident and later asked him
about the shooting. Whitcher offered a full confession, detectives said. While
police worked to bring the case to a close, the community who adored
the clerk held a memorial service in the store's parking lot.More than 100 people gathered over the weekend for prayer and to sign a book in Bhattarai's memory."I
promised our community I would not rest until this person was brought
to justice," Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen said. "I know the community
who was there to support that young man (Bhattarai) at the memorial
service can rest now."Police said Whitcher lives in the 3000 block of Cypress Point, just blocks from the convenience store.Whitcher's bail was set at $1 million.
