Have your say? This is what I found in "The Times of India".

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/World/Is_Nepal_hijacking_Indian_Idol/articleshow/3797213.cms

            When the third edition of
Indian Idol 3 ended last year with Prashant Tamang beating his rival Amit Paul,
the victory was due to the

overwhelming votes that the Darjeeling boy received.
Contributing generously to the votes were Tamang’s fans from Nepal who
collected funds to send SMSes in his support, at times crossing over into India
to vote for their favourite.

Though at least two of the judges
– Alisha Chinoy and Javed Akhtar – felt Paul was the better singer,
they both had to agree that the final decision was left to the voice of the
people.

This year, as Indian Idol 4 is in full swing, is the public
voice from Nepal out to swamp the Indian voice?

For the first time in
the history of the contest, a mobile telephone company from Nepal has tied up
with a publishing company to enable people from Nepal to vote directly from
Nepal.

“When Prashant Tamang became the Indian Idol last year
... the people of Nepal had a big hand in Prashant’s win,” announced
the local Himalayan Times daily Friday whose publishers International Media
Network Nepal Private Ltd has started a scheme with Mero Mobile, Nepal’s
sole private mobile phone services provider that was promoted three years ago by
deposed king Gyanendra’s son-in-law, to enable direct SMS voting from
Nepal.

“This year, Nepali fans of Indian Idol need not go to
all this trouble to vote for the next Indian Idol,” the announcement said,
referring to the border-crossings. Instead, those wanting to vote can use a Mero
Mobile number from Nepal 12 hours daily from Friday to Saturday.

Last
year, the enterprising pair had conducted a trial run, which consisted of asking
people to predict the winner and win prizes. The direct vote offer comes
following the fan frenzy created by Prashant. This year too, there is a
contender of Nepali origin among the 14 finalists – Kapil Thapa, the army
man from Dehra Dun, and the obvious strategy is to bank on the fan following he
might arouse in Nepal.

The question is, can or should the Indian Idol
be decided by Nepal? Would America accept the results if Nepalis managed to vote
from Nepal or raised funds to abet a Nepali-origin contestant’s victory in
American Idols? For that matter, would Nepalis accept it peaceably if Indians
vote during the Nepali editions of the Idol in Nepal and push the winner they
want?

SMS voting is a bad yardstick due to its sheer anonymity.
Perhaps it is time the organisers of Indian Idol give it some thought and lay
down guidelines.

For sure "Soarabhee". II3 was different story. Prashant was real challenger. We can't compare Kapil with Prashant. It is true that Prashant was not as good as Amit but he was for sure best competitor for Emon, Pooja, Deepali, Chang and Ankita.

In II4, Remo/Kapil/Toorsa are real jerk. I should say they don't deserve to be top 5. Coz of them, we lost Rajdeep/Bhanu/Bhagya/Prasanjeet. After Prasenjeet was out, I quit following II.

We need (and sometime "must") to support our people to some extent but not blindly.

Well,  Prashant won because he sang better than Amit paul in the final. Amit Paul made a blunder in the final.   It is like sports on the given day whoever plays well should win. Based on the final performance Prashant deserved to win.

coming back to the 4th Indian Idol, Judges have been very baised against Kapil even when he was singing well. I know he isnt the best but he is certainly better than Torsha. My god ........Torsha was Abysmally bad in last episode. But somehow few judges gave her a green light. Just see the biasedness. Her singing was Pathetic to say the least in the last episode.

The good singer in order are  1. Sourabhee 2. Kapil and 3 . Torsha

However, due to overwhelming fan following the winnner will be KAPIL THAPA.

Here is the last episode. Many people on the blog of indian idol wrote it was one of the best they have seen from Kapil..But alas the judges. They didn't light up any blub.    The next video is of Torsha. See how  Pathetic she is.

Did not follow the Indian Idol, but feel such cross boundary influences are the foundation of the basis of mera Bharat Barsha, or the Indian Sub continent. We do import from India a lot including the bird flu, hence sending some sms should make no difference after all the trade deficit is huge....

If Prashant Tamang's win was not fair then how fair is Amitabh Bachchan winning "Star of the Millennium" title (according to a BBC News online poll)?

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/394226.stm

Even Govinda was voted number 10. Are you kidding me?

When it comes to true acting skill, Amitabh may not even be close to varied skills of their own sibling actors like Nasruddin Shah and Om Puri. One of the reasons why Shah and Puri did not garner comparable attention by the media was that they were not box office-draws while Amitabh was.

So how did this polling got so skewed? These may be some of the reasons why.

The world Indian population is so huge and widespread that, more than one out of every seven persons in the world is an Indian or of Indian origin. Majority of the Indians have chosen IT career tracks which provides them  frequent access to the Internet and almost all of them indulge themselves watching masala Bollywood movies which is a favorite pass-time for most of them which has contributed to Bollywood to be the most prolific movie industry in the world but not necessarily the most classy.

Given all these circumstances, do you think movie luminaries like Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, Robert De Niro and music icons like the Beatles, Elton John, Frank Sinatra would stand a chance for that title?

Now the real question arises instead :

Is India hijacking the "star of the millennium" title?

Click below to read what the unbiased Indians have to say in pages about how deserving is Mr. Bachchan for the title:

In conclusion, may Prashant continue to make every 'Gorkhe-ko Chhoro' proud.

I think this is very good news for Nepal and Nepali. If Indian media thinks that we 23 million Nepali can decide Indian Idol out of 1100 million Indians, I think we should not be anything other than proud. Atlest they are accepting power of Nepali unity.
