Maoists remain alert as leaders rush to Delhi

The central secretariat meeting of the Unified CPN (Maoist) held Tuesday morning has concluded with the decision to remain on high alert for possible political shift as leaders from other parties rush to New Delhi.

Taking the Delhi rush as hint of possible political changes with Delhi’s involvement, the party has decided to start greater homework to avert it. As most secretariat members are out of valley for public opinion collection, the meeting has been postponed until afternoon.

KP Oli has recently returned from Delhi visit while Bam Dev Gautam left Kathmandu for Delhi on Monday. Girija Prasad Koirala and Surya Bahadur Thapa are scheduled to fly on Wednesday and former King Gyanendra is currently in Delhi.

Additionally, the party has concluded to be as flexible as needed towards the protests by Tharus and other ethnic groups and directed the government to call for a all-party meeting to address the demands. nepalnews.com ia Mar 10 09

Leaders' visit to Delhi kicks off controversy in Kathmandu

BY KESHAV P. KOIRALA
KATHMANDU, March 9 - Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam left for New Delhi on Monday but the government has kept his visit under wraps.

Gautam's son Harish Dev Gautam said the Deputy Prime Minister is on a trip for medical check up. He is suffering from the Bell's Palsy -- facial nerve paralysis -- and needs to undergo physiotherapy regularly. The minister is accompanied by his wife Tulasi Thapa and personal doctor Dr. Kiran Jung Kunwar.

Gautam went to the Apollo Hospital on Monday afternoon for medical check up and is currently staying at the Nepalese Embassy in Delhi, according to Harish.

“There is no political motive behind it and has no specific plans to meet with any Indian leader," he told ekantipur, quashing claims from senior Maoist leaders that a number of top non-Maoist leaders are getting together in New Delhi to engineer the downfall of the current government. Gautam is expected to return to Kathmandu by Wednesday.

Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has recently gone on record to state that plans afoot in the Indian capital to revive "baby king" in Nepal, whose 240-year old monarchy was consigned to oblivion in May 2008.

Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who has had intense parleys with different political parties in the past week, is also leaving for Delhi on Wednesday.

His trip, scheduled two months ago, had to be cancelled “repeatedly owing to different reasons,” said NC's head of International Department Sujata Koirala. She said he will be seeing doctors at the Apollo and is likely to meet the Indian leaders to discuss the "many issues" on Nepal.

Surya Bahadur Thapa, another former prime minister and president of Rastriya Janashakti Party, is also all set to leave for Delhi. Thapa recently urged Koirala to lead a broader democratic alliance to counter the Maoist “authoritarianism.”

Already, the CPN-UML leader and former DPM KP Oli, who got his kidney transplanted last year, is already in New Delhi for a “regular checkup.”

The flurry of high-profile visits are timed with former king Gyanendra's extended stay in Delhi since his departure on Feb. 25 to attend a wedding ceremony in South India. The ex-king is said to be engaged in “political consultations” but details are sketchy about the nature of the discussions. With the credibility of his wayward son Paras in tatters, the ex-king is said to be lobbying leaders in India to revive “baby king” – enthronement of his five-year-old grandson Hridayendra -- in the world's youngest republic.

When the Maoists themselves operated from Indian soil with support from indian politicians, it was all good and now they are scared?

Hemmed in at home, non-Maoist Nepal leaders line up to visit India

Kathmandu: As the New Delhi-mediated peace process faces its stiffest challenge and Maoists move towards one-party rule, leaders of various non-Maoist political parties, including those in the ruling coalition, are in the process of heading southward.

The visits by Nepali leaders coincides with the three-week-long “social-religious” visit to India — to Delhi, Bhopal, Gujarat and back to Delhi next week—- of dethroned King Gyanendra that began end of February. Most leaders have used “health check-up” as the pretext for their Delhi visit while others are “silent”.

Party and family sources said that while the deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam left on Monday, K P Oli, another prominent leader, is likely to join them. Both belong to the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) , a major partner coalition in the Maoist-headed coalition.

While Oli had a kidney transplant few years ago, Gautam suffered from facial paralysis about a month ago.

G P Koirala, president of the Nepali Congress, and Surya Bahadur Thapa, chairman of the Rastriya Janashakti Party, will be in Delhi on Wednesday. According to information available, former King Gyanendra is expected to arrive in Delhi a couple of days after Holi.

Its sad for all nepaleese that nothing is going right in nepal now a days. People voted Maiost because they thought there will be change, progress and Naya Nepal. Unfortunately, It remained the same as it used to be, may be even worse.

To me it looks like we dont have any options left now. Bring all those old congress, communist, Raprapa Politicians back? Do you guys think thats the solution? Dont forget they are the ones who were ruling Nepal for decades, they are the main cause of Nepal being Current Nepal, Bukhamari Nepal and Poor Andhakaar Nepal.

I dont like any politician from Nepal. I dont see any whom I can respect and say he is the one who is going to do something for Nepal. What they know is pulling others leg from back when other try to climb up. Thats what going on in Nepal now. Criticizing others work became the identity of Nepali, Burning Tiers, Nepal Bandh and Chakkjaam for small issues became the habit. No matter other people do right or wrong they just criticize it instead of supporting them, helping them or giving them right suggestions to do the right thing.

Save Nepal

How are we going to bring Gun toting militants to right track ?  Just because they are going down does not mean they have to bring the whole country down along with them.  DO YOU WANT THEM TO CONTINUE TILL NEPAL AS A COUNTRY CEASES TO EXIST ?  No I don't think so.  International community milera Border haru matrai bandh garyo bhaney they won't be able to survive more than a month or two.

Nepalese leaders in Delhi, raises eyebrow of Maoists

Kathmandu, March 10: Amidst speculation that leaders of various political parties are rushing to New Delhi to hatch a conspiracy against the Maoist Government in Nepal, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala will embark on a personal visit to India on Wednesday.

The visit by the former Nepalese prime minister will coincide with the trips of other prominent leaders to New Delhi. Though Koirala's visit is said to be for the purpose of health check up, it has assumed political significance among the Nepalese media.

Speculations among the media suggest that something must have been cooked up in Delhi that may have significant impact on Nepalese politics at a time when the Maoist government has increasing rift with opposition Nepali Congress and serious differences with its coalition partners.

Dethroned King Gyanendra, who has gone to India to attend a wedding ceremony, has yet not returned. Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-UML leader Bam Dev Gautam has just flown to Delhi for medical check up while another powerful leader of the party K P Sharma Oli is still in Delhi.

Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa is also scheduled to visit Delhi soon.

"A democratic alliance may be worked out against the communist rule among Nepalese political parties," hinted Nepali Congress Vice-president Prakash Man Singh without much elaborating.

Former Prime Minister and president of Rashtriya Janata Dal Surya Bahadur Thapa had recently stressed on the need for forming a broader democratic alliance against the Maoists' authoritarian attitude and asked octogenarian leader Koirala to lead the alliance.

These visits have raised the eye brow of the Maoist government, which is trying to lengthen its rule by hook or by crook.

The visit also came in the back drop of senior Maoist leader and Finance Minister Baburam Bhattarai's allegation that King Gyanendra might have visited Delhi in order to revive the baby King idea, or making his grand son six year old Hridayendra heir to revive the 240-year-old monarchy that was abolished last year.
