you must have a cd/dvd that came with your laptop. Pop it in. follow instructions. there must be something to click like "repair" or similiar. usually those cds are easy to use. just make sure you read instructions carefully. Note: computer guru cahiyo bhannu huncha, tapain ko Nepali ta daro cha ni.

Don't Do system restore.. I think while windows was updating your battery died and windows shut down, so the update was not installed correctly and now your windows is unstable.. Do the following before doing system restore. Re-installing or restoring is usually the last option.. Assuming you have Vista... Go to control panel. Open Programs and features. On the Left panel, Click on "View Installed Updates" find the Update that you were trying to install (You can sort by 'installed on' and find the one from latest date) Uninstall that update and re-boot your laptop. If problem is solved... Yeah.. Thank me,... and make sure you always have your power connected while installing updates.

Have you tried "system restore" or not? I am not talking about using "Recovery Disc" to recover everything as a fresh installation... You gotta restore your system to the back date when you think your computer was not having any problem.... Otherwise, return the computer... if you are lazy.

when power fails during the hard disc access, it leaves the file locked and corrupted. The corrupted file will occupy the disc space where you can not over-write with a new fresh copy even if you repeat uninstall/reinstal. you have to remove that devil first. If I were you, I would do a thorough disk check first before installing or uninstalling any updates. you may find free software to check disk and get rid of those corrupted file if you can not solve the problem using chkdsk /f.

If you have created a restore point before the problem occurred, that's only when system restore will solve your problem... I would say, to save you more hassle in the future, Backup your system, your programs and files, and re-install the OS. Good Luck.

Dont be scared of system restore. It does say it will delete all programs that were installed after manufacture. The term "manufacture" goes to both hardware and software. I think what it is trying to say is that your computer will be just as it was the day you bought it. Yes, that means it will delete programs installed after you bought it, you will have to install those again.
