Dont loose hope...try some Indian Doti consultancy ..may they will help u to find project...As much I knw initial OPT period is 3 month so search some DOti consultancy and send letter to ur university so that u will get one years OPT period which is General other wise if you are from science engineer stream you will get 27 month time I guess.  All the best mitra...

 

Your OPT comes with one year validity. You should get the job within 90 days for ur OPT start date to maintain legal status otherwise you will be out of status.

Regarding job, as long as u get job within those 90 days, u r fine. As said in above posting, u can try indian consultancy who looks for jobs for u and maintain ur legal status even if you didn't get some projects.

On 12 Months of OPT, You can't be unemployed for more than 90 days on that 12 months period..Whether it's Initial 90 days or total of 90 days during 12 months period.And the Unemployment days are accrued..

Jhyamma is right..during 12 months OPT period even the volunteer work counts as employment even if u r not getting paid.

For 17 months extn, you have to have STEM degree and the employer u r working should be E-verified..However , once ur extn is through, Volunteer without pay doesn't maintain legal status..U have to get paid once ur 17 months extn begins even if its a Federal minimum Wage...

pyaradeshbashiharu can u make clear.. what does volunteer mean, does it mean person with degree in any major can volunteer anywhere. ??????

As far as the OPT rule is concerned, u have to work in ur field of Study. And on 12 months OPT Volunteer can be 20 hr/week or 40 hr/week without any pay whatsoever..Interesting is it contradicts the labor law, if u r working u have to be paid..But on 12 months OPT Working without pay is fine as long as u r working in Field of Study..For eg: Working as an Intern in some ABC comapny without getting paid...But in some cases like EE,Electronics there is no thin redline to tell whether u have to work for a EE or Electronics company..PPL r working in Core IT field..But "U definitely can't work as a Volunteer Programmer if u had a degree in Plant Sciences"
