I am not an immigration expert but I don't see any shortcut to get a us citizenship within 7 years of landing here as a student unless you apply asylum  the very next day. And if that is the case then, is that shit worth being so proud of ???

Peace

GD, what do you say to those who spent their good chunk of life in just maintaining status, one college to another cheaper college-degree, then kaplan, then B1 then H1 or never h1 then asylum to no legal status. How many bright student have lost their status in search for status.People who go back does have the right to say that they are for the country and family-at least they choose to go back instead of searching for status of status. if you want to laugh, laugh at those who does not have courage and potential to go back. Remember, many folks in this recession went back and doing hell lot of good job than what people are doing here.

suman ji ,

congrats for being the citizen of the USA, for lot of the nepalese its a dream come true. and i also admire your emotional attachment to the nationality that you are so proud of and want to be remain that way.  well there is always a rift between legality and morality and the emotions we all go through.  I dont think that the nepal govt would be happy to strip off its citizens of its citizenship once they acquire citizenship of any other nation. Thats why now they have issued NRN cards and they are en route to issuing a citizenship cards but wtih some limitations to the NRNs which is a very promising thing for lot others like you, and the future is not as bleak as you think of.

but my point is , we should not be limited to a piece of identity when it comes to your loyalty and faith to your country and people. as sun spreads its warmth no matter how far away it is, you can make your presence felt by your actions, bring the same warmth to the country and countrymen, no border, no paper or no nationality will be an obstacle .  Personally I would be more than happy to see an electrical engineer working in a micro hydro power in a remote village in nepal rather than going off the subject and doing some programming  work in USA to make big bucks. But very few have the guts to make a big decision like the first one.

So its about making a difference, if you are able to do that nepalese wont consider you just a citizen, they will hail you as a hero, or u just want the piece of mind that you have two citizenships and you have both the doors open, u will be lost in oblivion as thousand others are.

I'd have felt better if I had addressed you something other than Dhwase ji, however, thank you for such a lovely response.

I really believe in what you and Geology Tiger have to say. I listen to my heart more closely than my association with any social institutions. Whether I'm American, chinese, or a resident of Mars, no once can strip me off my belief of what makes me happy. I'd be happy to make a meaningful difference in Nepal, and that's what I'm after. These intellectual fist-fights get us excited and swing us different directions, but somewhere in the depth of my solitude, I know I'm happy with my conviction.

in my opinion we tend to focus and pay attention to what Nepal lacks than what it has to offer and we focus on negetivity and make our minds to stay here. thats what almost everyone is determined to stay here by hook or crook

My point is If the writer says he loves Nepal then why are  people are telling him that his love is Fake and he is making excuses ? why because he is no longer Nepali citizen? He changed his country? Given the opportunity  I bet most Nepali will change citizenship, or gladly accept Green card.  If he got his citizenship than let him be, if you think he is at loss then its his loss not others here who think that NOW he has no right to love Nepal. He hasnt complained about his citizenship here but feel a conection to Nepal even after. Hook or crook ko kura chhaina bro, payo bhaane many will take it. As for me Im not a citizen, I do have GC and have kids here, will I be a citizen here? Nope, I want to retire In Nepal, thats just me.

terobaje, why are you having hard time to accept the reality and so reluctant to admire those who go back to the country- at least, majority of  them are in a better position to make a difference than majority of those who are here, irrespective of their status. So why in a hell, what is need of being a jealous for the people who are here living here-isolated from their relatives, their country, from their own place-irrespective of how much money you are making-are they really happy? tension free? relaxed? -even from Suman kharel's point of view, having got US citizenship, still he is not happy-(he may not accept and pretend that is different matter) but his whining story give clear picture!

congratulation  on your second class citizenship. Time will tell buddy just wait. Nothing wrong with getting new one, jani jani kana giving up is very sentimental and sin to some people that's all. Join the lobby NRN and tell how much money , skill you can bring in poor  country with dual citizenships, go ahead, measure it up with price skill but that is not the point. THE POINT IS YOU GAVE UP PRICELESS ITEM IN FIRST PLACE WITH FULL CONSCIENCE WITHOUT ANYBODY FORCING INTO IT.
wish you the best, you can remain be nepali no problem, people do it for different reasons I totally got it.

If you have to give up your Nepali citizenship then it means you are not a Nepali anymore. But more than often Nepalis get the citizenship to apply for green card for their family members who would otherwise never get a chance to come to the US. Like in everything else, you lose some you gain some.
