Few weeks back i recived my EAD card for staying in OPT but there was spelling error in my last name. so i called USCIS and my school to know what should i do about it. When i went to school they cut my EAD card and said " you will get another one but it will take time"
when i asked them some of my question below they said they have no idea. so can anyone help on my case..
so my questions are
1. How long does it take for another card to come. 
2. will i get additional days to find a job since they made mistake on my card.
(i.e a student must find a job with in 90 days of arrival of EAD card.) When i asked USCIS about this they told me to talk with school and when i went to my school they said i wont get additional time and my 90 day period has started.so i am confused.

in my opinion,  Just a spelling name error on ur card might be a typo when they printed the card but on ur sevis record u have been already approved for opt and you can start working. Infact your International advisor is right that he/she told you that your 90 days already started as you have your EAD card which is approved. 

Only last week my EAD card for 1 year had expired and since i am eligible for 17 month STEM extension I had filed the application for USCIS 2 months ago. But last week when I went to school to learn about going back to school for Master for spring quarter 2012, i met my international student advisor and she asked me how did i filed the application for extension for opt without requesting the new i-20 for opt extension. I didnot know that we gotta get new i-20 while applying for extension of opt which infact it is true as after completion of our study, we get new i-20 while applying for opt. Actually it is the same process but i simply didnot realize. My advispr told me that since i have not applied for new i-20 and my sevis is not updated for opt extension, they will reject my application. I asked her if she can issue me i-20 sinc emy application is still pending but she says no and wait for the decision by uscis. She scared me that it will get rejected and sinc emy opt had expired, i have to either file h1b asap or prepare to leave states within 60 days of expiration date or join another college. 

I was tensed and ofourse becasue if it gets denied i had to stop working which i have a job at the moment and then have to find some random college just to be in status as the deadlines for fall and winter quarter has already passed by.  But, couple days later, i got a letter from USCIS asking me to send new i-20 requesting opt extension and submit the documnet. I went to school and my advisor said, you are lucky... .
what i mean to say is, we do worry in very smalll things which is obvious that it will totallly change the life., which  will totally ruin everything. if my application had denied, i would have been messed up >>>..

That's just sharing my story which will definitely good to know about some different cases of opt or what so ever .. . . .

but the thing is i still dont have s.s no and when i went in social security office they didnt approve me since i had spelling mistake on my card. and since i dont have social security no i wont be able to work. i dont know when the new EAD card will come and till then i am just hanging around.. k garnay garnay.. 90 days gatdai gairako cha. its been almost 2 weeks now since i applied for the new EAD card.. i am just afraid it will come after i finish my 90 days.. 

oh testo po . .. .   but u still look for a job and tilll the time u find a job, may be with next couple of weeks, you probably should get ur EAD card as if the name had only misspelled, which must not take long process from USCIS. But, when you recieve your EAD card, didn't you got a receipt also within that card. Check the name on that receipt also. If the name on the receipt is right then they should probably misspelled or misstyped while printing your card.

Isn't to apply for SSN, you need a job offer letter????? once you get a job offer letter then you can apply for SSN. I am not sure, but isn't that is the process.
I got my SSN way back where those days the UNIversity used to apply for our SSN on the first day we joined the school. My two roomates who have been going to school doesn't have SSN so far.
