Some of these reports are good, but others are really useless. People are using these 'reports' to promote themselves or their friend. I found it funny that a father of a MIT guy felt compelled to write about his son after reading the report (well, your son is doing good in MIT, what do you care about what a weekly bothers to write?).

However, I was struck by the claim that Akron is top 5, or that a man got into the program by making plane. Plane was invented when the world was still riding a horse-back and cycle was just invented. It is nice that someone can assemble stuffs and fly in Nepal, but that sort of "applicability" is not something that has many practical uses. A serious professor in a good university will actually laugh off at such childish claim, rather than let the person in as a serious scholar. Many in Nepal are making mockery of the word "invention". Often people are doing this like a joke, or to get some 15-minutes of fame. If they don't make grandiose claim, these exercises are good, but once they make grandiose claims about these invention (and ask govt to fund their whim), it becomes socially harmful.
