Hello All,

I use to live in apartment XYZ and had 1 year contract with the apartment but as my position was moved to different location I broke the contract. I left the apartment at the end of Jan 2011 paying the rent for Feb. I gave notice to the apt manager on Jan 1st. She was ok with me leaving the apartment because I never had any issues with apt manager and paid my rent on time and she told me I will be fine since I paid 1 month extra. When I asked her to check me out she told me not to worry about that and I handed her the apt keys. Today after 7 month I am getting the call from the collection department saying that I owe them for 2 month rent and some property damage, cleaning, and carpet washing. I lived in that apt for only 4 month and was out most of the time. I have no idea how to deal with this situation. Nepal ma bhayeko bhaye taha thyeo k garnu parcha bhanera ta this is FU***** USA and …….

When I tried to call the apartment manager no one answers the call and after calling their corporate office I came to know that the apartment manager doesn’t work there anymore.

I really appreciate any suggestion.

I also had the same situation few years back. But in my case , it was only 15 days. We left the apartment 15 days prior to our lease expired. The Apt. manager told us that it is okay and we don't need to worry about 15 days rent. But after few months, they called me asked to pay otherwise they would inform to the credit agencies and goes to the collection agencies. We had no choise other than paying the amount.

Hey bro. never rush to pay that amount. if the apartment company haven't send your case to collection, then talk to the apartment company or manager or concerd department. even apartment company should have collection department. and in this case tell them to negotiate the amount that they mentioned in the bill.. Make sure that they feel like u will not be give money so easily. Try to negotiate to the end. and moreover mention them that u are student and have no job at all and a foreign and came here temporarily and they will be scare that if u leave this country they can't collect their money. but unfortunately this kind of case has to be settled down any way coz this might [Disallowed String for - bad word] your credit till 7 yrs. and credit score will go real down. and if the apartment company had send the case to collection company then talk to the collection company and tell them the same thing that u are a student and have no job and a temporarily came to this country and negotiated till the lowest price, and they obviously negotiate the price

But guys make sure that its always better to settle down the case paying low amount of money and don't let the case go longer than 30 day , coz ur credit history gona start getting bad and if it is 60 days its worse and if 90 day extreme worse and if the case extend more that 120 days, your credit history will show KD sign which refers to Key Degotary something like that which stands for filing as an bankruptcy.  filing as a KD, bankruptcy is real worse case and will [Disallowed String for - bad word] ur credit till 7 yrs and ur credit score will fall  by 100 to 150.
so always try to settle down the case by negotiating the amount.

phone ma manchey bhetena bhanera chatpatauney hoina, milcha bhaney manchey nai bheta ra sabbai kura settle gara office mai..  it makes sense going in person than emailing/phoning.

And, when you broke the contract, and then they couldn't get in any tenants for few months, imagine what happens, you are obligated to pay for it and that's what they're after. read all the papers what you signed when you got in. they'll slap it on your face when you meet them. just in case.

I don't understand, why ppl here in SAJHA is always like they're abused and stuffs without not telling approriately what could've gone wrong.

You should pay that immediately, don't haggle over it and risk your whatever credit u have.

and don't cuss this country for god sake, where you are building your future.
