This is what I've been thinking lately. It would be catastrophic. I was looking on those links for possible solutions or measures to minimize the harm but found none. Then again, I thought those 'duck n don't run' tips are not gonna work out there. Just looking at those concrete jungles so densed and attached together, which look like piled-up bricks from up above there is nothing we can do much. Those buildings are no way in any standard to withstand anykind of shock. Even the mighty technology in Japan which always flaunted about their shock-proof buildings couldn't really handle major earthquakes in the past. There is no place to feel safe and nothing much we can do against mother natures wrath should it happen. But say if the same scale quakes occurs in some plain green grassland, are there gonna be any loss of life? No, not at all. So, it's the structures and buildings that's gonna take lifes, not the earthquake itself. I blame how our system doesn't moderate how building should be built. I feel sorry for them. Prayers for everyone in advance.

 It is true that an earthquake is a natural disaster and we don't have any control over it. 

I also agree that the earthquake doesn't kill you, it is the buildings and structures that does.

However, in my opinion, preparing now can increase your chances of survival should an earthquake strike and presume you don't get killed instantly.

- Develop a family plan

When the earthquake strikes, people will be in panic mode and in shock. During that time, it will be very difficult to coordiante or think sensibly. Preparing beforehand will help you during the panic and shock period.

Should an earthquake strike, it will be every man for himself and every families for themselves. Don't expect the government to help you out.

Reminds me of those people who preach the end of the world. There are people who are preparing for the apocalypse.

Apocalypse is a myth.

Whereas, the possibility of an earthquake in Nepal is a fact, backed my scientific evidence. 


Many people in Nepal don't realise that Nepal is among the high risk countries in terms of earthquake occurrences. You are evidently one of them.

Nepal is a seismic prone country and the risk it faces from earthquakes are very high. Past records have shown that Nepal can expect two earthquakes of magnitude 7.5-8 on the Richter scale every forty years and one earthquake of magnitude of 8+ in Richter scale every eighty years. The last great earthquake to strike Nepal was in 1934 which had a magnitude of 8.3 Richter.

thebigone I agree that it's a possibility and I hope it does not happen because the construction of houses and other structures are not very good.

Thesedays lot of people are investing their money on apartment complexes that are over 10 storey tall. These will all be worthless if such an earthquake takes place.
