I am in dilemma. My Nepalese bros and sisters who are professionals and have been in my situation..please advise. I am working for a decent client through a consulting company. The project is for 9 months. Its my second project. But I also found a full time job at a nice company that is ready to sponsor me, and has a lot of benefits and the best of all, is in my home town( where i graduated college from). Should I go for the full time? What are the good and bad? PS I am currently in STEM extension. Also, my consulting firm is also pretty cooperative and has talked about filing H1 and green time in the years to come!! Thank you for your genuine suggestions!

definately full-time ..no doubt about it. However, if it is too much difference in pay then you might want to calculate all the benefits too while in full-time. I am not sure about your consultancy, but in my case I has zero benefits with consultancy - no vacations no sick leaves no national holidays and even insurance was of no use.
I converted into full-time for clients and pay was 20 thoussands more than what i used to make with consultancy, and offcourse all the benefits, great insurance, and even 1 week of extra vacation just by Manager off the records. Also, leaving at 1:00 pm on long weekends,,one coming this week...

 The full time job should be good. But make sure they will sponsor you all the way to your Green Card. And like the previous comment, check on the pay too!!

Don't worry much about pay..I hardly can think any full time job will pay much less, unless the company is very small. So go for full time. Working for consulting is like plying with fire. You don't know u will get screwed by company or uscis or visa consulate back home. So go for full time. The only thing to consider the history of company for unexpected lay off.

 I was laid off 2 times from 2 different companies when i was working as a full time employee. First lay off happened during the recession and for the second time our company got bankrupt. Sometimes its also matter of luck :)

And once you are laid off from full time job and if you are in H1, then you are almost f**** up. And, according to the new rule- you have to transfer your H1 within 1 months otherwise you are out of luck. So that's the another side. So check your company history before you move in. Its better not to have too much faith in small companies because they may let you go anytime.

Do you have a source or even a link to some valid gov websites that tells about the new rules of H1 - that you have 1 months to transfer H1 to another company.
My undestanding was that there is no any specific days or time frame. Once you are laid off, your H1 status is immediately gone, and the best thing to do is either transfer to another company or change status to other like F1 or go back home. And either of these has to be done quickely so that you can make a case to the USCIS.
I have never heard or came accross any readings that says we have 1 month to transfer H1.

It is true that if you work as a full time (Direct company) and you're in H1 and you get Layoff then you're DONE ! That's the risk being with direct company and H1. That' happens with most small companies. When they run out of business or their business slows down then they'll let you go and that's really scary.

The good thing about desi consultancy is that they'll hold your H1 even you're done with one project and looking for another and you've a gap in between.

They'll save you.

But as far as the benefits and everything else goes, i'd definitely consider Direct Full time Job.

Karnalis and Jugehalder, here is my two cents on the matter (so far my experience on the issue: I stayed almost 3 years with one consultancy and now i am full time with H1 from dircet hire).
It seems you both guys are either about to graduate or are in OPT. (just in case if you have Greencard then still this can be looked sameway). Consultancies are like government in a sense that we cannot afford to not have them, and at the same time they will create few problems down the track. They are happy as long as they are making money of you. 100 % out there are in business to make money. So apply their rules to them. Get with the one that gives you more chances of landing job. DO not look into who pays 5000 more right now. When you are in OPT, you have upper hand. If you are looking for place to stay (which I personally don't suggest) during training then find anyone that gives you that, but make sure that instrctors are good and you will learn something.
After that while marketiing, do from few more others as well if you see that your consultancy is not giving you enough interviews.
If you are alreday in H1 and looking to transfer, I personally dont suggest you do that unless the case is hopeless. No matter where you go, its the same rule, just different players.
Here I will never give a list of consultancies saying that they are good or they are bad. All are good and all are bad. you Need them, they need you, so utilize it with wise decisions.

Personally, with one senetence - Evereyone is good as long as they give you a job. DO not worry about filing Greencard or doing other things at the moment if you are trying to start at zero. Do one thing at a time. First Make sure you learn and be ready for inetrview. get job, and then worry about H1. After H1 worry about greencard.

For the list of consultancies in Irving, drive from Beltline road on Walnut hill upto MacArthur and look left and right, and you will see a hundreads...
